I borrowed from a friend AMD Radeon R9 290, can I fold with it?

If you have drivers and opencl works with it. I think any gpu card less than 6 years old should work.

BTW, I’m really looking forward to the day when SAFE works this smoothly. There is a lot to emulate here regarding ease-of-use and performance.

The rate we are going it may very well be possible. Maybe if a few others added their GPUs when not gaming we could shoot ahead faster.

haha, my laptop was fuming I can’t run it anymore. My CPU and GPU was reaching 93°C.

You could try disabling CPU folding and just do GPU. Controls are in the system tray. Also the web interface has settings for light, medium and heavy lifting.
GPU is actually the hottest

Do this really work? Thought a quantum computer was needed because modeling conformation of any molecule larger than 50 atoms was beyond the reach of any classical machine no matter how large?
