It’s not as important now, but we would love more folk to be on line more. It’s just more efficient, but not a hard requirement any more. Nodes do not monitor and remember each other any more, just like ants They can tell they are ants and the right kind of ant that behaves, but not the history of each ant,
It will be, but dependent upon geographic distribution of nodes and the size of data disruption per node on/off.
Older phones will likely be used first. Many SBCs also come with 64GB EMMC nad more with 32GB EMMC. Pay more to get a SSD or go RPi with large SD card.
People will take their old phone and rather than throw it out, just leave it on charge earning off the network. 2024 phones are indeed more powerful and more powerful (storage) than many SBC solutions. But your 2024 phone costs a lot compared with the much larger number of old phones and cheap SBCs
Anyhow I was just pointing out that before even testing 32GB nodes there are pressures already wanting it lower. And as Jim says, which I also mentioned, the 32GB test is at the extreme high end of what is being considered suitable.
We take the positives and negatives into account when considering an ideal sizing. To discount negatives because there are alternatives is justifying biases. I see many positives to large node sizes, but I also see the negatives and often people wanting the larger sizes hand wave away the negatives because they have enough money/resources to do so, but that also hand waves potential losses in number of people (and nodes) that could be included with consideration of positives and negatives
Many mobile devices are using wifi, and mobile does not always mean roaming the streets/countryside, but used in locations with wifi. Home/office/similar. Although its a valid point and one for using smaller node sizes to allow users to have one node using less bandwidth and battery power.
uptime is an incentive, not for good/bad status, but for earning capability. Longer connected more opportunities to earn
I asked in a roundabout way about that. And he assured me that they will be upping the upload rate to indeed do a lot of uploads. So people will have to consider carefully any plans to under allocate nodes.
‘Mental’ really does sum it up. After years of patience fatigue, more recent compromise fatigue, and all the mental endurance that’s taken, it feels surreal to be just one day from some sort of launch. You’re right though there’s a strange vibe where you might expect excitement. Maybe the twists and turns of this long journey has everyone a bit guarded.
Some fanfare would be great though… something to mark the end of this chapter and the start of a new one would feel fitting.
Wish it would be called a soft launch. For the real launch in January one would hope that there were some more announcements and marketing. Even if the goal might be a little lower approach and let the network grow more organic, if ERC20 L2 limits full scale growth.
Southside has a very sore back and is in a particularly shite mood. I’m getting painkillers Ive never heard of before and some complicated instructions about what I can take when.
So Im sorry, I need to decline and propose @Bux as the Designated Pole Dancer
Discord, sparkly drink, seasonal treats, kruidnoten, memes and a comfy pair of slippers is just how I want to celebrate the launch. Should really crack open a bottle of scotch.
It’s been a long time. Looking forward to tomorrow and the following months.
