This sunday started with some great news, @chriso showed the solution to the network connection error. The solution was to delete the bootstrap cache in appdata.
Great work on the little GUI app. I think this is a great move.
You probably know this already but I thought it (just about) worth mentioning that my experience was slightly complicated by the fact I installed the .deb and ran it from the Gnome apps menu (with icon and all). It ran fine but it couldnât find the wallet from my bashrc. In the end I realised that if I just ran dweb-app from the terminal it worked as expected, wallet balance and all. I guess the terminal keeps the service open and running and dweb-app leans on that (although could run âdweb-app &â and then close the terminal windowâŠ). Might just be worth a note in the README for dullards like me?
My only other observation is not too important but vaguely interesting: Opening e.g. Friends from the GUI app works and loads my Friends profile fine but Billboard loads the app with âFailed to create scratchpadâ on each note. I was going to say it still works when first running dweb serve and then dweb open (as it did last week) but that doesnât actually seem to be the case today. Probably a âmeâ problem, just thought Iâd mention. Youâve got bigger fish to fry, Iâm sure ![]()
Thanks for all the great work.
Thanks for trying the new dweb-app (aka AutonomiDweb App) and taking the time to feed back. ![]()
This is always helpful, even if problems are already known because your report contains other useful info such as âyou tried thisâ and âyou didnât have any other issuesâ etc.
BTW you can resolve the issue by moving the SECRET_KEY setting from .bashrc to .profile. Putting environment settings in .bashrc only works for programs that are started by the shell (bash) but putting them in .profile works for all programs as it is read at login.
I suspect the Billboard issue is not you but the network, but donât know for sure. It seems more likely, not least because you say it worked last week.
Iâm glad you liked the improved experience.
actually probably a billboard app issue
⊠I can have a Quick Look later; probably just not up to date routes due to too little care ![]()
He said it worked last week.
hmmm - billboard still uses ant-0 routes
Maybe he has an old version of dweb-cli.
billboard updated to latest dweb routes - should work now
Well, thanks for you patience and help - that has indeed worked a treat.
Using .profile for your secret key makes dweb-app work just as I expected it should. Maybe one to mention in the README or somewhere in the app itself for other users like me? I know this wonât be your top priority but something for the future perhaps.
riddim, yes - youâve fixed Billboard! Thanks for that too ![]()
Iâve added a note to the README for now. In time, if I ever get the time, support for wallets will be much simpler.
Thanks again for your input.
Update to v0.12.2 seeâŠ

- the new dweb icon for AutonomiDweb App
- various tweaks to docs and code
Help! If anyone would like to share these announcements for me on Discord and elsewhere that would be great. Iâm only sharing here and Mastodon at the moment.
Updating
You can download the corresponding build for Windows, Mac or Linux at the link below, and see this post for help using this on Windows:
Alternatively if you have Rust update using:
cargo install dweb-cli
If that gives an error, try:
cargo install --locked dweb-cli

Great work!
Do you have any plans to add basic wallet handling to the UI? Thatâs the missing link for me on the app, so I currently use the CLI so I can pass the environment variable when launching it, which is a pain, but I have a macro assigned to a mouse button to do it all easily ![]()
On the topic I just want to mention that this last weekend I made further progress to the Friends launcher which now can install rust/dweb, create/verify eth addresses, set env variable and launch dweb/friends. There are some design things left, the launcher is also supposed to work cross platform win/Linux/Mac but I have not yet been able to try it outside win11
I will try and post the progress soon even if it could need some design progress.
I hope happy will have a solution but I just wanted to mention the progress.
I agree thatâs an important next step but I have so little time now that I hope someone else will pick up the bulk of that work.
I have lots of ideas but very little time. I keep finding a bit here and there but canât do much more.
Would it be ok to distribute dweb pre-compiled so no need for users to install rust, c++ and so on, do you know about any such restrictions?
I think the issue may be Tauri not supporting Window 10. Iâve run AutonomiDweb App on a clean Windows 11 machine without issue.
