@happybeing I was just searching the web about Tauri, also, Typescript to WASM as the team are interested in WASM so apps can be compiled cross platform and I was lead to one of your posts on the dev forum about Tauri + Svelt = cross platform apps compiled to WASM and obviously, dead link.
I really wanted to read that. I already was in support of this but I most definitely see the value in having old posts archived. A lot of what you were writing about between Tauri and project Solid were very general and informative.
Was relevant so I wanted to share that.
I also can’t wait for a network where link rot is not an issue and pages can be immutable. If only… haha
@Dimitar discourse got back and they are not hosting the old forum. Francis must have set it up separately. So you have any idea where?
Otherwise we would need to start again and if so it’s likely easier to open the main GitHub repo conversation area? Not sure how that sits with the guys but we have few choices it seems.
Yes, correct they were not hosting it. Francis should know where and he does answer private DMs on this forum.
And as you say Github is the obvious place for core code and some APPs since it keeps things in one place. But I do believe it was more about the APPs not associated directly with the project but are other projects to build APPs for Autonomi. Some overlap in the APIs but going much further with multiple different APPs and unrelated to the Autonomi code.
I still think for a forum style its easy enough to have it here rather than yet another forum. The dev group can be opt in with people able to read all or a portion of the dev section (category/categories). Then each APP can also or only have its github conversation area
in Autonomi this current CMS,
Working on lots of builder and dev stuff at the mo… but here she is, revived for the time being!
There – that didn’t hurt, did it?
Is it just me or is there a sudden whiff of Pimms?
I have no idea what that means.
But without going into the deets, it was complicated.
@happybeing is a Pimms afficianado ![]()
or jakey as we say round these parts.
What is the deadline? Will the content be kept online? Is it meant for active use, or just reference?
It’s in the planning at the moment.
I’m putting together plans for an overhaul of the docs, help, and support for devs and builders at the moment. The forum could play a part but I’m aslo keen that it:
At the mo, it’s not scoring to highly on any of those, so we need to be clear eyed about its place… or it’s perhaps best to go into archive mode.
But on more broader notes i’d really like some opinions and experience from you folks on where—ourside of this project—you’ve had really good eperinces with docs and developer onboarding.
What’s best in class in your view? Would love to see your fave examples!
If we could wave a magic wand, and fill in the gaps of what we have at moment, what would that look like?
If you could choose to start anywhere, where would that be?
Is there an option for it to remain as a community dev forum for those who want to maintain it? Like this forum?
Privacy. Security. Freedom
That could be an option, sure, but just remember that wee list above — we’ve often suffered as a project with sprawling info in various states of upkeep and general lack of focus. Now is the time to consolodate, and brush up.
Every post has a date, so I don’t think it’s a problem. The topics could be auto-closed after some time. This forum also has a lot of outdated info, but nobody sees it as a problem. Sometimes it’s quite interesting to dive into project’s history.
I think it will be frequented as long as there is something to chat about, raised issues (even if only on Github) are being addressed and developers are encouraged by being treated with same attention as node owners. I second @happybeing’s declarations to be there as often as possible and address any newcomer’s questions:
If the Maidsafe team cannot be there, it should just be clearly stated, and the forum as a community-only could still be useful. It could serve as a noob-filter for other channel, where the Team would be present and spared the FAQs.
Indeed, I am all for consolidation. Hows about we consolidate the vast array of Discord channels into
Ive said plenty about trying to triage support queries before they even hit the channel, wont repeat again.
I have never seen the dev forum as an important focus-lacking place. API, docs, examples were always taking the lead.
Search can be an issue though… I go looking for an answer, and am return information that may be from some time ago, but how do I know if it is still up to date or not?
You sort the results from newest to oldest?
I rarely get the info Im looking for first time with the Discourse search function. Almost ALWAYS have to go to advanced and set a date range. As true here as on the dev forum.
I just put it down to Discourse being pretty shit overall. But its what we’ve got and Im NOT calling for that to change in the short or medium term. And in the long term we’ll have our own forums on Autonomi where we can do it right.
