“Show me the incentive and I will show you the outcome”
I doubt any of us expected the incentive would lead to 10 million nodes in 2 weeks though.

All the more reason to reduce the RandomRewards to the merest trickle. We would seem to have a critical mass of nodes – with incentives. Surely now is the time to see what happens when the (totally artificial) incentives are reduced/eliminated? And use the funds that would otherwise be removed from the overall project economy to incentivise up/downloading and app development
Paging @Bux @JimCollinson
How do you do that without exacerbating the problem in LaunchPad / Reward "Potential" Issue(s)?
There’s obviously a tension between overincentivization and excluding casual home users from the rewards experience.
Well for starters I think its hard to exacerbate a problem that is already a 100% stopper for most and then I would be looking for Maidsafe/autonomi (still not used to name change!) to be uploading like crazy to get some chunks into the system.
For our original - and what will be our sustaining market, the run what you brung home user,it is a few more days of the same poor /non-existent rewards until the nodes move from 0.0001% capacity to 0.1% capacity
And never forget - you get somewhat excused as a n00b, our REAL market is the spare capacity on all these HDDs and SSDs sitting in consumer machines.
What attracted me to this project all these years ago was the use of otherwise redundant resoures worldwide.
We are assured that the upload issues are being looked at - thats obv a short term issue - I hope!!!
Yea analyzing a network that’s not able to be used as intended is tough. I think once upload/download functionality is solid the right decisions, even if including compensation changes, will be more clear.
Absolutely.
Not that surprising in scale; supply will grow until the average cost of running a node is equal to or lower than the earnings from running a node. Some operators may also be planning to hold for a while, so are making decisions based on their expected future price of ANT vs the current price.
Though, it is interesting to see that even at this early stage there are people involved with Autonomi with the computing resources available to scale this quickly.
It’s exciting imagining similar growth, but based on real demand and virally growing usage.
I look forward to seeing the proper growth of the network when all is working smoothly & awesome apps are popping up left, right, and centre
However, with the price…we thought we would be higher…will we rise in the same way at some point??
Once uploads/downloads are solid I’m expecting the price to have the upward pressure we’re looking forward to.
Yes launch price didnt do much, but if autonomi does what it says on the tin it could shoot up in the next year.
Currently, ANT is on sale every friday and tuesday
Damn the team have changed this from random rewards to its always been emissions. Prob changed in last couple of days since that is when the messaging changed on discord.
So since its the white paper’s emissions it is unlikely to have the rate changed now.
Although some changes are coming. One implications is “node quality/age” will be used. Of course the whales are running them long time and good nodes and respond slightly faster. It’ll be the home node operators who will be hit the most by the presumed type of changes. They cannot all run them 24/7, and all the other factors do not disadvantage the whales sucking the funds dry
We need data on the network, that’d make it too costly in storage charges for the whales to be extreme in their node running.
I am starting a series of scripts to help test the network. It’ll increase the network load a little and more if enough people join into the testing. See @Southside 's testing topic
On my machines I notice the following peaks starting on 21.02. Are these your tests?
Check out the Dev Forum
Doubt it since only a couple of people are running it and so any traces of it will be minor on machines like yours. Also should hardly be any disk I/O since its quotes only.
EDIT: I have now added two more scripts, one to upload small random files for exercising the network’s ability to upload files. 3 chunk files and realistically few people will be doing this and not amount to much test data.
Also a script to download the files uploaded to exercise the download function of the network
Who would have thought that it would only take 2 days to add those 4.5 million.
10 million nodes. Insane.
Aye
Also insane that we can’t get uploads working but that 10m useless nodes draining project funds to a whale is hailed as a “success”
Cos it certainly doesn’t look like a success from here…
Let’s have fun with it. Let’s all run as many nodes as we can, even at a loss, to ensure tourists running nodes only to profit take a hit. We’ve, speculators aside, supported the project with no immediate gain for years, what’s a few more?
We?!?!!
You only showed up last November.
Wrong again.
Aye well you buggered off and left the rest of us to get on with it. Gloryhunter. Man City supporter?
Still if it made you feel good to type that, fill yer boots
And how do you know that? How do you know that I haven’t been honing my skills and plans for this very moment?
No I don’t follow other men in tights playing with balls.
Relax, enjoy the launch. These are exciting times!
