Zcash cryptocurrency

Absolutrly agree. Ludicrous whats happening.

Rewards are barely 4 zec/10 minutes. Dont hold.

I found this interesting post by zooko:

What happened to Litecoin (http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=a_massive_investigation_of_instamines_and_fastmines_for_the_top_alt_coins#litecoin)
could also happen to us — the mining power in the early days/hours
could be much higher than the initial setting of the difficulty factor,
thus leading to faster than normal blocks, and making people who missed
out on that period suspect that we had deliberately colluded with early
miners to give the early miners an unfair advantage. A possible
prevention of that would be to have a ā€œslow startā€, where for the first
few blocks there is only a small reward, like on the order of 0.2ā“©, and
then it periodically redoubles until it reaches 50ā“©. The advantages of a
slow start are:

  1. We get a real measurement of mining power, which can be used to
adjust the difficulty factor, before the more valuable rewards start
coming. (In contrast, the earlier proposal to have mining of empty
blocks with no reward doesn’t have this advantage, because early miners
would be incentivized to hide their mining power from the difficulty
calculations and then turn on their mining power just in time for the
    first 50ā“© reward.)
  1. People have less reason to be suspicious that there was some kind
of collusion in which we pulled the starting gun trigger right when
their competitors had gotten to the starting line but before they had.
Since the starting gun just starts doling out rewards of 0.2ā“© per block,
it is fine for late-comers to jump in.

So is that what zcash did? What are the rewards for each block anyhow?

Yes, but modified, I think. Atm it’s at around 1.30z/block. It increases by 0.01 every 4 blocks or so. I don’t know if that rate will increase.

Is zcash really at $924?? Is that all money train business(speculation) or does anyone here really think that’s what value a currency that is anonymous has? I’m amazed honestly. It had a lot of hype in a short period of time and then bam it’s out and skyrockets. Think safecoin will get that high? I still can’t believe it

It’s just warped by low supply. There are 5000 coins right now and a few speculators want to own a coin or two. The mining difficulty is rising even faster than the slow start rewards are increasing, so the miners also want higher prices than it’s worth for now. When supply gets to 7200 coins a day in 4 weeks the price will take a hammering imo, unless there are a lot of people actually ā€˜using’ it - which seems unlikely.

Right it’s super low in market depth because it’s such low supply/new correct? I’m not super informed on the trading side of things, especially zcash. I’m safecoin or bust, this is the only project I believe in since nothing comes close to the overall vision. That might not be a wise strategy but hey I’m a risky sonabitch ;D yeah I’ll be watching to see what happens with Zcash though, you seem on the up and up with these things @Jabba so I don’t doubt what you say. Thanks for the clarifications

And they had a silly idea to ā€˜slow start’ the mining for the first 34 days, so it started on super low rewards. Plenty of hype too as some big names invested in it. It was Ā£2M (3500btc) a coin at the start lol.

I think most of us are pretty much. I like to keep an eye on everything and have lots of smaller investments, but really, as you rightly say, [quote=ā€œNigel, post:15, topic:11651ā€]
nothing comes close to the overall vision

Zcash could be pretty cool in some ways. I’m really just in it for short term interest while I wait for SAFE… same as IOTA, Eth and the rest ;). I’m very bored when I’m not planning and punting lol. I stay patient by keeping myself distracted.

Fyi, there’s been a fork of zcash, Zclassic.
Didn’t think it would hold for long, but hashrate has been growing and apparently, ppl still support it.

It’s basically Zcash but without founders reward of 20%, no slowstart and the same masterkey-setup Zcash used, so no security issues there, if it’s all true. It’s on c-cex exchange and price has been quite stable imo.

/edit
Apparently it wasn’t premined by the guy who started the fork. Just some clever dude who watched it unfold and pointed some aws mining power to it pretty early.

Same security/trust issues as Zcash with this setup of course

Yes, so if I’m not mistaken, if the masterkey wasn’t destroyed, they could create free zclassic aswell :sunglasses:

This is a good article about the ā€˜trusted setup’, well ā€˜trusted’ already warns you here I guess:

I think miners are basically selling all the time. If it’s not worth selling anymore, you switch to a more profitable coin. Miners are not speculators, as long as there is an alternative to Mine. Cause if you wanna speculate, you are better off buying with the profit you make from other coins.
Also, the optimization process isnt over yet. We get increased hashrates almost every day from various miners (software). I think it’s gonna slow down quickly now, but we’ll need a few more weeks until difficulty will be less volatile. Until then, in my somewhat inexperienced opinion, the dump isnt over yet, if at all.

Take this opinion with a lot of Salt.
