What’s up today? (Part 2)

“who went into the attack with a weapon, ignored repeated police orders to leave the building ”

Do you even read these articles :joy: He was given a tour by the police. Were these videos not even available for his trial?

If they didn’t want him there why didn’t they detain him?

“But the judge said video shows Chansley, who entered the Capitol through a doorway as rioters smashed nearby windows, “quite literally spearheaded” the rush into the building.”

Maybe because he was the leader of the mob and they didn’t want his detention to cause escalation of the conflict? Seems rational to me.

This is so fun! No-ISO install of Debian virtual machine in QEMU.

Anyone who’s been half-meaning to play with QEMU, try this one - it works fine. I’ve got a Debian VM running in my terminal in Guix right now, and it’s been a great laugh getting it going. Apart from demystifying QEMU and VM’s a little, there was no other point to the excursion, but I felt I should share.

And while I’m at it:

Next Tuesday is the opening day of a two-week “Capture The Flag” competition, it’s a well-known one in the cybersecurity world, and good for beginners, apparently. Carnegie Mellon organise it.

Perhaps a bad idea for the fully employed, but after you sign up you’ve access to previous years challenges in the “picoGym”, and they’re great fun. I’ve never done one of these, but you fall right into it, the competitive feel makes it effortless to get stuck into, I encourage anyone to give it a go.

Alright, good day all, don’t let me distract you too much from arguing about Trump/Ukraine/Biden/Musk/whatever

oh please do – its all so depressing - such needless waste - even when the GoodGuys are winning

I can’t see why releasing all cctv of a major incident is being discussed as a negative thing. Only people with something to hide would not want that footage released. I do agree the footage should have been given to more than just one network though.

You answered your own question; it was only given to one network. Also, the only negative thing wasn’t the release but also the cherry-picking way of choosing which snippets to air on a national TV show. He must have a large staff - it only took two weeks to select which short clips, out of 40,000 hours of video, he wanted to air on the first broadcast. It would have taken a staff of more than 100, watching videos 24 hours per day, to review the entire body.

As the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, said today:

“With regard to the presentation on Fox News last night, I want to associate myself entirely with the opinion of the Chief of the Capitol Police about what happened on January 6,” McConnell said Tuesday, referring to a memo sent by Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger which called the Carlson’s depiction “offensive” and misleading.”

Other notable Republicans have voiced similar opinions.

If it wasn’t hidden for 2 years this wouldn’t be a problem. All the news networks cater to their audience and only show what they want. The news is finished and the last 3 years has proven it. They are propaganda machines for whichever billionaires own them.

It wasn’t hidden any more than evidence needed in any trial is kept close to the vest so as not to prematurely influence the outcome of a trial.

Isn’t that withholding evidence if they are only allowed to view the footage now?

In other words: Just because you can show at some moments you were strolling through the capitol, it does not relieve you of responsibility for what you did before or after said stroll.

@RepAdamSchiff

Dominion emails showed Tucker Carlson lied to the country about the election because he feared losing Trump fans and corporate profits. Last night, he lied about January 6. Different lies, same motive. Only now he has an accomplice in the Speaker’s office.

Nice to see you actually read it this time :joy:

If I was on trial I’d want all available footage and I’m sure you would to. Like I said earlier all about the catering to the audience to increase profits for the already very wealthy. Just remember all sides use the same methods. The news doesn’t show real news they show what they want you to see.
