Kindof, but there is so little activity it isn’t reassuring to me. I’m more interested in who and why at this point, and somewhat suspicious because its a costly operation. I pondered money laundering on the Discord and Rusty and Jim are not happy with me.
I am not overly surprised ![]()
Money laundering is a pretty bold statement @happybeing.
It is a costly endeavor, but it is legit, I know of a few large operators.
Have to say I don’t blame them, Mark, You got anything other than healthy suspicion and the natural cynicism of the technically enlightened to back that up?
Which is why I call yet again for the re-appearance of the HammerLord and his minions who having helped build all this will attempt to find all the ways WE can break it before any other bugger does.
I am truly glad there is another cynical bugger here, but I’m drawing the line at accusations of money-laundering ![]()
It was just a speculation, like any other, and was said as a joke.
I’ve not seen any more credible speculations.
I didn’t accuse or say it was happening.
I wasn’t being cynical either.
Thats OK then - we will let you live for the time being.
Please don’t stop being cynical though. We need cynical bastards who have the guts to ask difficult questions - especially when said bastards have the technical knowledge to add weight to their queries.

Really really bad news. Especially if Apple and others are forced to remove e2e on devices. This is total madness
To their credit, Apple seem to be holding firm. I wonder if it will push folks towards autonomi, if companies are likely to get strong armed by governments?
It’s a great reason to be OSS and for this launch to get done and past. Then hopefully we get true decentralised and private OSS dev work done and have no owners of this at all.
Just saw that on X, came to share the post:
Why we need
cloud for a secure future.
Its actually fantastic news. I wont shed a tear when apple and google have their business destroyed with bureaucracy.
We wouldnt have bittorrent if big music money hadnt sent the government after napster.
And brainy folk like David and the team would know about kademlia but the rest of us would be even more clueless
ai wrote a poem about our comms , especially uk
O, ye’ll no be wantin tae ken the truth,
Leaky, creepy, waste, a digital youth,
A mess o’ data, for ye an’ me,
Spills an’ secrets, in the hands o’ a few, ye’ll see.
The servers hum, in dark an dusty ha,
A centralized reign, wi’ walls that are frail,
That spider wove a web on shaky ground,
A client-server model, auld an’ worn oot.
The leaks keep comin’, like a drippin’ tap,
Oor private lives, in a digital trap,
The creepy crawl o’ trackers an’ spies,
A surveillance state, wi’ eyes that never shut.
The big piles, o’ outdated design,
internet architecture, that’s lost its prime,
The data centres, wi’ energy tae spare,
A wasteful system, wi’ nae care or concern tae share.
O, for a change, tae a decentralized dream,
Where data’s safe, an’ oor privacy’s the theme,
A web o’ trust, wi’ nae single point o’ fail,
A dung pile-free internet, tae set sail.
the end.
UK is becoming more and more EU’s China/Russia, it is insane, never thought a European country would do to it’s own people what the UK does.
And the madness going on in the EU parliament is not far behind.
A decentralized Internet is what the world needs.
It is of course not only the UK. A bit vague and this only from the Belgian government (new this week) agreement, translated to English:
The government will explore the possibility of providing a private or public certification service for users that should make it possible to link each online account to a duly identified natural
or legal person, but without prohibiting pseudonymity or the possibility of linking multiple accounts to the same person.
During this operation, the provider of the social networking service does not collect any personal data.
I’ve read that some interpret this as being a requirement for every (Belgian) online account, but I doubt that. Impossible to enforce.
And this specific doesn’t make it possible to get to the encrypted data. But maybe encryption won’t be a problem to get to your messages sent with e.g. Iphone, if there is AI on the phone that registers all keystrokes (comparable with Microsoft Recall) and sents it directly to Apple…
If that goes through then UK share info with the US and that means currently Elon gets access to all of Apple’s iCloud.
So its a lot worse than just UK spy agency putting a back door in that can be exploited by other country’s hackers and spy agencies.
I think even worse. If this goes through apps remove e2e for UK folks. So all our data will be hacked and all governments will end up with copies as they do now I bet. e2e was a tool that provided some support there and removing that is all our stuff in the open. When it’s held unencrypted the US will just demand it with a no discussion notice as will all 5 eyes countries. That is maybe the plan
Apple on Monday:
Autonomi on Tuesday:
The timing is unbelievable.
Thank you MaidSafe.
Wondering
. Should I start looking at moving to Switzerland.
