O2, the mobile operator arm of Brit telecoms giant Virgin Media are using a range of tactics including something known as number seeding to be able to get Daisy’s phone number added to a list of online ‘mugs lists’ used by scammers.
While it doesn’t directly protect people from scam calls, O2 takes the view that by wasting the crooks’ time, it has diverted them from targeting real victims, while also providing intelligence on the tactics the fraudsters try to use against their targets.
Is it to cynical to wonder if investors arent in it for the money so much as to destoy the project on behalf of other hidden powerful interests? The original vision of human centred decentralisaton is a big threat to powerful tech companies and the govnts they serve to surveil. I’ve watched multiple free open source projects get wrecked when they begin to threaten lucrative proprietory services run by tech giants. One example: there used to be multiple software that could teach piano for free (alongside proprietory ones that charged a one of fee). Today none of these software exists anymore, its all been abandoned or removed . Meanwhile there are 20+ very expensive subscription services that teach piano online in the exact same way (more or less). This trend continues with other software. Note taking software is another - its absurd how much standard notes (open source but not really) charges for subscriptions. And for giants like google, apple and microsoft the data is lucrative too - their lame note taking apps are the most widley used. Again this didn’t used to be the case, there were lots of great note taking apps but they have all but disappeared, enshitification is everywhere, but there are more sinister players messing with projects that could improve peoples lives for free, because they also happen to threaten the most lucrative software around. Do we think AWS or Google are just going to watch Autonomi take over part of their busness? Whats happening to autonomi is like watching the music industry buy up Napster. Its so depressing. We can’t have nice things anymore, capitalism has wrecked everything.
No catch this time, a little sad. They did not show the booster explode on the original space x stream, they ran that stream with 10-20 seconds delay and cut away to another camera a few seconds before it exploded,
I made a web app AI chatbot with a few features from scratch in 5 hours with replit last weekend. It would have taken 30 hours+ coding all that by myself. It’s really good. Didn’t work on first attempt, but I retried all over with better instructions and then … (there were many iterations of course !!)
I’m a software engineer though, you still need to understand what’s happening… We’re not replaced yet
I also got a working app at the moment, best thing is if Replit storage is on the Network and we can use the Replit agent to easily create apps on the Network
Btw I like you kids the most Nobody controls those who can code
Ledger? After the hack of their customer list and the one involving Ledger Connect, I wouldn’t buy one of their products for anything.
I know someone who had to move house after their name and address were exposed.
Personally, the best thing to do with their products is to smash them to pieces with a hammer.
One way to protect yourself from this is to order on delivery address either at your workplace or if you live in a residential complex, indicate only the number of the complex, but not the specific apartment or the extreme option is to indicate only the neighborhood - most couriers allow redirection of the delivery to another address or call by phone.
