There are definitely monopolies in print media too, Rupert Murdoch being a monopolist. Governments haven’t intervened to stop it yet, or at least lately. If I remember correctly there was a ruling in the U.S. preventing anyone from owning more than one television station in any local market. There was a time when television was supposed to be an information panacea where you could find out anything from your television. That never happened because antitrust law was not applied as it should have been.

True. Things ain’t great online or offline and are both heading in the wrong direction. What I think this battle is really about is old media tycoons versus new media tycoons. Murdoch was slow to embrace the web and paid for it. They are all fighting it out in Murdoch’s home turf of Australia, where he controls a lot of the print and TV media, because Facebook and Google desperately don’t want Section 230 regulation in the US. I think they all see it as a kind of test case.

Australia seems to be a test case with lockdown orders too, so I don’t know that its specific to social media. Washington seems to want to make an example of them in order to keep the rest of the English speaking world obeying orders, especially here in the U.S.

Just added to sn_routing for the time being to get some feedback on it from the team. Seems like a cool tool, though Rust support is currently experimental so by default there aren’t that many checks run as perhaps there are for other languages. It allows us to set up our own rules & checks though so perhaps over time the Rust gurus in the team will start to bulk up our own. I’ll let you know if we end up doing so.
I ran locally against a few of our Rust repos and I haven’t had a failing check yet. Let’s see what happens as the Rust support matures.

Selective reporting is every bit as insidious as outright censorship
This is especially notable on BBC Scotland - the Voice of London imposed on Scots - with fines if you do not pay the English Propaganda Tax that they call the TV License Fee
