What’s up today? (Part 1)

Though seemingly a contradiction, the more volatile something is, the safer it is to trade (back to @Antifragile’s strategy).

On another note, that pastry is the best. I wish I could buy it here…

Random query to peeps with good coding brains.

I’ve often wondered about blockchains being ported to Safe to ease wallet overhead (at least in terms of local storage space). But blockchains aren’t the most efficient form of database in terms of speed - instead their main function is as a trustless database. But in terms of putting a trustless database on Safe - it wouldn’t need to be a blockchain-style DB … so my question is - does Safe make blockchain tech obsolete in the longer term? – Assuming Safe is as capable as envisioned.

Assuming a working Network, then in terms of capacity, throughput, security and privacy—yes.

May be kind of a big deal, so here’s one with Donald Trump supposedly begging GA SoS to falsify election results.

“Supposedly” only because I have no desire to listen to that little sh*t’s whining for an hour so I had to trust what others said about it. Do verify if you have an hour to waste.

They messed up the transcript link on that page so here’s that too:

EDIT: I skimmed through the transcript. It’s indeed really truly absolutely f*ing horrible.

C’mon man, it’s kind of a thing today. We have 5+ Assange threads too and yet nobody’s saying that post just before belongs there not here.

I think all of us here are well-wishers for Assange. But we aren’t all aligned on American politics (by a long mile) … that’s why it has it’s own thread. Because then people can respond freely without starting a flame war on a generic thread.

IMO, I fear this is just a stay-of-execution. Call me cynical if you like. The judge said that Assange SHOULD be extradited for the fake BS charges … and it’s ONLY Assange’s health that has caused her to block the extradition … meaning she’s given herself a free pass (I didn’t extradite him - don’t harass me in the streets!!) … next an appeal court will most likely overturn the ruling on Assange’s health and he’ll be off to gitmo.

Hopefully I’m just being cynical.

I feel that world news like this does indeed belong in “What’s up today”. It’s not just “American politics”.

The article is a cynical take for sure, and sometimes he uses some slightly exaggerated language to get his point across and set a tone of urgency, but I can’t find much fault in the content itself. I showed it to a friend who works in health insurance, and they had a good laugh at how relatable some of the claims regarding corporate bureaucracy in the industry were. At least anecdotally, the article feels plausible as a prediction of 2021 and beyond in the US, assuming we do nothing to stop the tailspin. And it is downright funny at times if you’re into tongue-in-cheek humor

In general, it feels like a concise expression of an idea many Americans have had playing at the edge of their consciousness for years now. Not to say the author is the first to put this into words, but I think disillusionment with governmental and corporate systems in the US is starting to enter the public eye so it’s particularly relevant now.

Very interesting read; thanks for sharing!

"TalkRadio is an Ofcom-licensed and regulated broadcaster, and has robust editorial controls in place, taking care to balance debate.

“We regularly interrogate government data and we have controls in place, use verifiable sources and give space to careful selection of voices and opinions.”

Well, that is a bit mad. YouTube deplatforming is getting a bit out of control.
