What’s up today? (Part 1)

I’m hoping SAFENetwork will balance things out more toward his vision.

@zero-ghost mentioned a successfully tested fully homomorphic encryption algorithm by IBM in the live chats

To me this still was an open point and something I didn’t know it was working already :flushed: @dirvine - and since the algorithm is MIT licensed I guess there might be a starting point for computation in SAFE (while this probably doesn’t need to be part of the core ; )

Once safe is up and running (proving that it does work) future should be bright I guess!

Yes!! Imagine the power of the smart contracts and dApps you could build all while preserving data privacy and integrity!!

Sounds like it’s a bit computationally heavy but again with the imagining, perhaps there could be specific computational nodes that could go through a resource proof to ensure the specs of the computational node are best suited for performance. It could effectively be a whole other distributed computational economy living upon the network. That would be a very valuable network resource and it would mean a lot for preserving privacy but still getting the benefits of big data. I’m sure that’s just scratching the surface.

@Sotros25 I also think smart contracts will be essential on the network. Do you happen to know anyone who has shown interest in developing smart contracts that may be aware or would be aligned with SAFE? It seems to be that role/interest/expertise is in pretty short supply around here that aren’t already knee deep in developing other equally important solutions.

Unfortunately, not off the top of my head, but I can ask around. While I know a lot of blockchain/DLT devs, they aren’t necessarily smart contract developers. Moreover, the devs I know that are into smart contracts and/or homomorphic encryption don’t tend to be that enamored with DLT—especially if it’s permission-less.

There are a few devs I know in Belfast that have been experimenting with smart contracts and homomorphic encryption, but they’re more into “enterprise-grade” DLT (e.g. Hyperledger, Corda, etc.)…

I’ll do some digging, and see what I find.

Do we have any estimates on when the network launches? (Patient waiter since 2014)

raises hand - I have a little experience in blockchain contract development. I wanted to get the basics right before jumping in - keen to collaborate
