As has been stated before, the common slang name for the token will probably develop from common usage if all maidsafe does is call it safe network token or similar.
So, I’m just going to call them sents. It’s already a common monetary word (cents), but going out of fashion in fiat as they are inflating to a point that “makes no cents”!
So taking it for Safe Network just makes “sents” for me. Call it what you like and we will let nature take it course. Eventually something will be decided by the user-base.
It doesn’t, though. You should familiarize yourself with the distinction between virtual currencies and utility tokens.
I do think MS should bring in a few expert consultants to ensure everything they do, including terminology chosen as mentioned here, reenforces Safe token’s correct classification as a utility token.
Very true, but I don’t see the enforcement mechanism. If I understand how the SN is supposed to work all earnings will be anonymous as will an individual’s account balance. There is no public ledger to audit.
That said, maybe there’s a whole new era of government meddling coming. I.e. you have to declare all the crypto you hold at the end of each year and pay tax on the difference in holdings. And woe unto you if you ever spend more than you say you hold.
That’s true the term brutal is used as a mechanism to say I can be as uncaring as I wish in my response (no direct attack here @Blindsite2k ) and it’s better to be candid, but respectful of other peoples thoughts. The debate then flows and stops becoming a game of shooting insults over the trenches.
I fall on the wrong side at times via frustration, but it’s a mistake, to find the other person’s mind we need to calmly discuss with effective discourse. Like working with animals in general, shouting or aggression never works, it’s always best to be non-threatening and observant.
I hope now in 2021 with 2020 behind us we can all move forward in cordiality and accept differences as something we not only expect but that we delight in. That’s how we humans will move forward, there has been way too much binary thinking and biased hard opinions last year. It’s a new dawn for me at least and I will try harder to live by this.
At some point references to Money, Rewards, Payment in the code and comments should be changed to reflect a token like nature. I like the term Earn as it is clear. Receiving Gifts is seen differently by the IRS than earning. So folk in the US could receive gifts from the network up to $20k tax free. If they earned this same amount, they would be taxed as if it’s income.
If the network gave gifts for participation it would be a very different concept than earning. Of course this is a US case. I’m not sure how gifting is looked outside the US. Having a tax attorney look at this might be helpful.
These are just some thoughts. Nothing refined.
Agreed. Stating (one’s personal understanding of) the “truth” has just as much utility as saying nothing at all if the delivery overshadows and negates the message.
TBH I don’t think there’s anything in the proposal, or presentation, that disagrees with this statement. I think you might be arguing against something that isn’t there.
Safe Money
Safe Cash
Net Cash
Also I found a strange and very old thread when searching for Safe Network Token on the forum: About the Safe Network Token category
So Safe Network Token was the name given before even “safecoin”?
Edit: oh I just saw that thread’s edits/the edit in 2020.
