Updated White Paper: Published to View

Is it fair to say that this is a key driver for the 12 year erc marriage of convenience?

Nice work. A few small typo fixes and Qs below.

“This publication does not include any “forward-looking statements” as defined by applicable securities laws. … You should not place undue reliance on these forward-looking statements, which reflect the views of ‘the network’ as of the date of publication.”

The first part says there are no forward-looking statements, the second part says that you should not rely on (the presumably non-existent) forward-looking statements.

Great work with the supply reduction, it always seemed unfair towards early investors when there was meant to be 4,5 billion max, investors who spent a long time believing and taking risk would have faced almost, as a punishment, several 100% in inflation.

In my economic education we got an example who benefits from inflation. After WWII Germany had huge debt to pay for damage by the war, they payed that debt in government bonds together with massive inflation. The people got poorer and the government became debt free.

Also there has been some arguments that it would be unfair for node runners if they don’t get new token supply but I believe that is a logical fallacy. A node runner if it gets sometihing worth example “$10” should be indifferent if they get 10 tokens or 100 tokens, as long as the value is the same it should not matter. The only party who would beneftit from inflation would be the creator of the inflation who could avoid being diluted by expanding their own supply. @Dimitar

We are not talking about node operators, but about the network as a whole as it appears in the eyes of the general public. It is no coincidence that there is a term Fair Lunch in crypto and it is monitored how much percentage of the supply is left for mining. But anyway I am for reducing the supply :dragon:

That is because of ratio, how much founders take compared to everyone else.

As the founder bags are meant to support node runners then that is not a problem.

I hope you don’t mind me flagging this, I just felt it an important to thing to address openly.

The White Paper has in no way changed (nor degraded) the vision or scope of the storage system, initial payments/rewards and technical calls aside, it remains as it was and as it has been written about.

Over the past few months a few shots have been fired as to the direction, motivation, priorities and potentially the internal culture (?) instigated by ‘the new’ (non dev) team …

To be open, that ‘new’ team consists of me, a data expert (Jae), 3 folks that are here to help with communications as we roll out (Rusty, Gill, Rach), and Nic, our product manager, who works closely with Chris and all the developers to help ensure PRs and workloads/requirements are best supported and well distributed (sometimes tough with a fully remote and flexible hours team).

Putting myself to one side (it’s for you guys and not me to judge) I would like to say that these new team members have absolutely not detracted from the project, in fact I believe it’s the exact and entire opposite. Like me, their single motivation is to see the efforts and intentions of David and the development team to succeed and scale, that means a network that can store data, securely, with one (peer) payment, forever.

The White Paper, is really not about ‘shilling’ or transforming what was SAFE Network, now Autonomi, into a crypto project (although I would note that $MAID was the 10th ever crypto coin and I think, also the 1st or 2nd ever ICO), but rather it is about ensuring that the health and scale of a decentralised network is possible and always supported - Autonomi is a network that will hopefully outlive all of us and in doing so truly serve humanity, in part by protecting the knowledge that helps us to learn, evolve, and find purpose.

I really do appreciate that coins and token values are not everyone’s cup of tea (and I will be conscious to temper my style/narrative going forward with this group as needed), but that’s not to say rewards (and the stability and value of those rewards) shouldn’t be shared or considered.

It also absolutely doesn’t mean that planning and modelling for them is a detriment to the storage network - especially as the same relies on (many, many) unique node owners, providing services and ongoing support - in fact I would propose it’s the exact opposite.

Its of course not my place to ask you to assume good intent for all those (myself included) that are ‘new’ to the project but, the man that is @dirvine - as I think most here know - would never allow his vision (the one you guys have supported all this time) to be compromised.

Amen. Thank you Bux and the new and old team members. This year I have seen incredible progress. It seems that finally the impossible internet becomes possible. I really hope that the network works and all of us will have a truly stunning achievement to celebrate.
May our data be forever safe, our privacy eternally protected, and David’s legacy last forever. Cheers to making the internet great again - this time with freedom at its core!
Viva Autonomi! May your nodes always be plentiful and your tokens always moon-bound. Here’s to changing the world, one encrypted bit at a time!

Those are words, but the choices made are directly opposed to this. We’ve had many such promises, would you care to list all the promises that were not realised so far? We can all look at the roadmaps and make a list, so words have lost their weight and we must look at the situation we are in and how that could credibly take us to the original vision from here. There is no plan for that, just more assurances.

It seems not everyone can see it because it isn’t obvious and Autonomi have not explained their plan to reach it, but the vision has been pushed aside in a way that makes it no longer credible that it can still be realised by the project.

If you were to provide a detailed plan, both technical and strategic, we could assess it.

Wondering if we can use English in the document please. “decentralized” is spelt as “decentralised”

It is a Scottish company producing the network code and the foundation while not in Scotland is or I think would be translating into English English

Also @Bux Did you see my comment above about storage costing and that in fact “bring what you have” means the outlay for people to buy storage is not new storage which the maths laid out, but almost zero cost to the node runner who brings their own gear to the party. Would be good to also show the “bring what you have” costing along with the “Lets build new for nodes” costing which was supplied.

The white paper uses US spelling throughout. Neither is right or wrong, but it’s important (to pedants like me) to be consistent.

It is when its a UK company writing the document. Does a German company write in French as if its their native tongue. The English speaking world is not extra States of the USA

True, but the audience is international, and especially in tech US English is standard.

When did that happen. Oh right its the USA that mandated it because they own the world??? Whats next, David will have to speak in a American accent??? (yea I am over the top with that, but its the point, where does this USAifying stop)

Other languages are allowed when its their native tongue

It may seem to some a pedantic or irrelevant question, but the choice is part of the mindset here. We are pandering to a market. Unfortunately we can only speculate about that market - not least because we’ve seen so little of who the partners are or who is being finessed.

Seems we have to be un-British for them whoever they are.

I don’t see it that way at all. The great thing about English is that it’s a mongrel language and therefore flexible. There is no equivalent of the French institution that polices the allowed words. There’s no reason to suppose that English spellings are any more correct than US ones. To my mind it’s important to be consistent though. Pick one and stick with it. The fact is most tech uses the US version, so to reduce friction, in however minor a way, that choice makes sense.

Thats fine for you, but plenty of others do not see it that way. Its just another step towards losing ones identity in the world. Lets all become little States of the USA. Maybe the next step is at lectures, talks, etc David will have to adopt a US accent? The point is why does the Scottish company talk like an American

That’s one take, but why now? Previously MaidSafe were consistently Scottish and very proud of the fact. It was seen as a selling point wasn’t it? Now that’s changed it is valid to consider why. Maybe it just happened, accidentally, in which case that’s dumb because I think these things matter.

So should they get Irvine Welsh to write it in the Scottish vernacular?
