Update 28th August, 2025

It’s all action in the ant hill and we should have new releases of the client and Dave (GUI front end) ready next week. The former will allow for streaming uploads and partial streaming of downloads (we’re not 100% there on streaming downloads yet). We also merged a fix merged for the long-running Pointer and Scratchpad splits issue.

We’re still testing reachability but once that’s done - along with a few other code updates around streaming downloads – we’ll put out a new node release.

Bye bye beta

We’re officially sunsetting the Beta Rewards programme. The final reward window will close on October 29th exactly one year after Autonomi went live. October 29th is the last day to provide your information for any remaining rewards. As long as you’ve communicated with @rusty.spork in by that date, you’ll still be eligible to receive your rewards, even if the final payout happens after October 29th.

Bright ideas

Huge shout to @zettawatt for his idea to create a Autonomi developer startup/co-op. This is a really encouraging step off the back of Impossible Futures and the team are really excited by the prospect of where it might go next.

General progress

@rusty.spork continues to update the docs, including most recently a troubleshooting guide for Launchpad crashes for Linux users.

@anselme investigated memory usage differences between download streaming and uploads as well as taking a look at data types and how to best handle them with streaming.

@bzee continued researching bindings for Go, Kotlin and Swift. They all require quite different approaches and so will need to be handled thoughtfully.

@mick.vandijke has been working on Dave (our in house GUI for the node) enabling single file uploads without archives, ensuring compatibility of saved data access with the ant CLI user data folder along with various small fixes and UI changes.

@chriso continued preparing the release candidate as well as looking at optimising our releases and deployments. In the spirit of optimisation he also looked at whether we still need the alpha network or if we can now safely take it down. This will depend on whether community devs are still using it. Please shout if you are.

@jimcollinson has been setting up monitoring of social media platforms, and working on a new podcast.

Ermine has integrated Docker containers for backend, API, and frontend, with successful communications. Still a bit more to do on getting reliable connections to the network though.

@qi_ma improved streaming download coverage raising a PR for testing streaming downloads of a 4GB non-archive file from mainnet, another PR to expand file upload/download tests for stream usage checks during CI, and a third to make required changes to the API. He also finalised a code reorganisation to avoid inconsistent behaviour between Pointer and ScratchPad.

And @roland worked on the deployer and launchpad apps to make them mote reliable and to prepare them for the new reachability functionality that’s in the wings

A solid update. Lots of progress on many of the fronts we have been moaning about for ages so a big thank you to all involved.
We know a lot of this work has been going on for some time and its most encouraging to see much of it seemingly close to delivery.

Can’t wait to see Dave and to find out how much is duplicated/handled differently from the work by @happybeing @riddim @traktion @safemedia @josh @zettawatt @loziniak and others too many to mention. It will be interesting to see how all this work converges.

not a dig at you partcularly @Secretariat415 but …

I’d agree more enthusiastically if I saw more usernames familiar from these update threads showing up ( and failing if thats how it goes) when I look at Friends, Atlas and as uploaders to Colony.

We ALL have to eat our own dogfood, especially when the recipe for the dogfood is still to be finalised.

PLEASE PLEASE take a few minutes to try making an account on friends or Atlas.
And if you dont get immediate perfect success, shout for help either here, in Discord or even a shout in Atlas - and try again. -please.

We are on the brink of something really special if we can work together for a couple of weeks to get Friends, Atlas and Colony truly useable for average users. That means using it, breaking it and then telling everybody how you broke it. Without feedback the devs, both Maidsafe and community, lack the info to help move us forward.

Great stuff. Looking forward to the library updates for streaming uploads/downloads and the pointer/scratchpad changes. Also curious to see Dave in action. Is this going to have the payment handler thing built-in (i.e. where you can pay for uploads only in AUTONOMI, no ETH required, forgot what it was called)? I’d like to borrow that code in Colony if possible

Anyone wanting to participate, post to the thread or send me a DM. I plan to have a kick-off meeting with those interested after IF completes, so just a few weeks!

Forgot to add, any updates on how the IF judging is going? Any feedback for developers?

While you wait for core library streaming, why not watch some streaming videos over AntTP?

Or, you can see IMIM and a blog loading from a single file (t)archive:

Kidding aside, it will be great to see similar stuff in the core library.

I’m mostly curious to see how it compares with what you already built. I’ve been holding off on doing this in Colony until I can get a side by side feature comparison. I’d hate to do it one way just to redo it again, not that I haven’t done that before  If its comparable, I’d probably just use the core library (just because its already there), but I like the tarchive stuff and everything else you’ve built. Need to spend some time sorting through all of it. It isn’t clear to me if streaming downloads in the core library means I can grab specific sections of data. That’s the key feature I’m looking to get for data compaction.

Judging is ongoing, the judges have until Sep 5, 2025.

Weren’t these automatically distributed soon after the network went live, or am I thinking of something else?

The ones tied to a EVM address were already automatically sent out. This is for the Discord rewards. We had a process in the past where you would DM atomic and we would schedule a payment. But we are wrapping that up now in discord tickets.

Could the “controlled by no-one, owned by everyone. Powered by ANT” Ytb slogan be fixed, as Ant is no longer the thing?
