Now we know what the question was :joy:

Hey Josh,

I took a look at this.

I had forgotten, the self updating feature has been broken for a long time now. It hasn’t been working since we switched to using a workspace repository from the repository-per-crate approach. We’re using an external crate for this feature, but it’s not designed for use with a workspace repository.

It will need a bit of effort to get it working again, but I would rather do that after I finished what I was already in the middle of. So it might be a week or two before this gets fixed.

Thanks so much to the entire Maidsafe team for all of your hard work and the new testnet! :racehorse:

That is good! That shoud dmean either a) some very odd bug or b) some other folks nodes in that section live on (and someone is putting a lot of chunks)

I think so. I’m not sure how else he’d be receiving chunks?

We’ll have to see as we go forwards.

Next testnet will come after we’ve checked some aging related issues (that it was not happening seemingly here). As that’s pretty crucial for us w/ a decetralised network.

If we get the data storage tweaks in too, that should help, but one thing after another atm.

Thanks again everyone!

Let’s assume I am being slow and not understanding :slightly_smiling_face:

Should 9.6GB starting from fresh not be a issue?

Yes sorry, I read it as there were several nodes on that machine. 9.6gb if the node dirs were clean before w/ one node is odd yes.

Receiving chunks

That part is what was interesting for me w/r/t us taking heaps offline but the network still seemingly surviving (in some fashion, ymmv etc). At least in principle that’s cool to see.

Definitely started with zero chunks as I checked before the node joined and the directory was empty.

BTW is it easy to run multiple nodes in a cloud instance on an official test network?

It should be. It’ should just be starting the ndoe process twice with different node dirs I think. individual ports would be chosen byt he node (or selected by the user)

Yeh, 9.6gb is an odd one then. Sounds buggy. Do you have any logs (i see above you erased the node, but not sure about the logs?)

Yeh, sorry, did !rm and it was rm ~/.safe :man_facepalming:t2:

It was sending to your remote log thingy until it got full tho.

I observed it get to 1.2GB quickly and overnight to 9.6GB and still growing. More info will have to wait for another test.

Thank you for the heavy work team MaidSafe! I add the translations in the first post :dragon:

Were there any rewards for this testnet? And is the incentivized test planned in the future?

Welcome. The rewards will come from being early to run a node because I understand that launch will occur by declaring one of the testnets to be final = live network, without advanced notice. It is expected that earnings will be more in the early stages in order to incentivise provision of nodes, in which case it will be beneficial to have tested your setup during preceding test networks and earning from the start.

Holders of MAID/eMAID also hope to benefit at this point.

Contributing to tests and the community also gives a benefit by helping support MaidSafe and ensure the success the project.

OK, so the answer is “No”. Got it. Thanks. :slightly_smiling_face:

THe correct answers are “no” and “yes”
Come help us get to the “yes” bit faster.
