If you are talking about building your own NAS with something like FreeNAS, it is more involved than doing many Pi projects, but the Synology and QNAP NAS’ are pretty straight forward.
I’m running out of disk space, so I’m considering a NAS. Pretty much all I know is there is no way I’m running anything proprietary on the machine. This looks promising, mainly because it’s Debian based.
Any suggestions? Wanna help me build a NAS? Should we start a separate general NAS thread?
Good tips @wydileie thanks, I’ll do a bit of research on these things. I am down for the NAS thread, and openmediavault looks excellent @Sascha. Someone posted something similar on a dev update a few months ago which I don’t have time right now to go hunt down, some german company I think offering a box that you purchase and it’s all set up and ready to go
I had been looking at this last time I was thinking about trying some serving DistroWatch.com: YunoHost anyone have any experience? Are we in NAS territory there or am I confusing things?

Ds920+ supports docker so you should be fine (in general all + models support docker).
