That opt in to use is almost like linked in and face book forcing the end user to allow their privacy to be mined by forcing sign up while teasing info, or the way Nintendo is supposedly bricking consoles first and asking questions later over an emmulator is a little like this:

Its like the sentiment on fear where governments should fear the public not the public fearing governments- assuming fear at all. Where boycotts and strikes and deserved state sanctions fail, good design culture from the start can help quite a bit. Business entitlement is the worst and it can be designed out. Giving up on it would be like giving up on separation of church and state, or giving up on trying to stop the marketing of diabetes inducing junk to children. Its part education, part design and part culture. But we dont cave even a little because of the momentum of banker backed first mover status. Big money is often last to the party and its not forgone that it gets to hog everthing and even where its taken root it can be up rooted.

They try to enculturate abuse and privilige, but we can reverse that. I dont think SAFE is neutral, it flys in the face of what is good for big money. But really ad based stuff shouldnt be encouraged, its crack, its helped lead to stuff like the epidemic of childhood diabetes and even the refusal to take preventative measures.
