True, but even in mass marketing one must still move with finesse. I have worked on marketing for mass market CPG, financial services and tech products (so I’m not simply pulling this out of thin air). Much to that end, at this point in the product life cycle at least two different segments must be addressed with one taking far more precedence than the other: developers (more key at this stage, I think) and users. The users could be further subdivided into commercial (i.e., the business users Maidsafe has already intimated they have plans to target) and consumers (i.e., what I think you generally mean when you say mass market). If we double-click again into consumers, we’d have to understand how the marketing would need to be tweaked by geography and other demographic factors for maximum effectiveness. The same can be said on the commercial side.
That’s what I am trying to convey, and yet it is a prevalent mentality among geeks.
I agree with the rest, I find it funny that it is the same product for both B2B and B2C, and yet we must have two campaigns to highlight what each group wants to hear.
I remember Chipotle deliberately not advertising and look how big they’ve gotten.
Maybe it’s not about advertising but more about the sign of the times and an absolute necessity being filled in the world’s valleys of suffering. Though obviously the Superbowl ad must’ve at least done something. Though, who’s to say that it had an overall positive impact on the psyche of everyone who knows about Apple today? (At that point it gets a little complex, I guess, but unconscious life is complex.) Maybe they would’ve eventually been known, regardless. And if not, then maybe the world didn’t need them in the first place (just making a hypothetical, don’t kill me Apple fans!). To me, virtually perfect security of the entire digital realm sounds like something that will eventually find its way regardless of the method, word of mouth, what have you. Anything beforehand is a nice little effort to make early adopters feel better about their investment and themselves.
Advertising is just one small subset of marketing though. I’ve worked for companies that don’t advertise, but still put a lot of rigor into marketing. (With success I might add).
Tesla doesn’t advertise. I love the title “Silicon Valley.” To me Silicon Valley is what comes after petrol. Its sand after oil. To me Tesla is JUSTICE. We pull the plug on their money and then their power and finally while they are still alive begin to prosecute them for all the crimes of petrol.
Petrol is civil rights part 2, it should have been retired 50 years ago not long after formal slavery in the US ended. It can’t exist without a defacto “right to exploit people.” People just don’t get that a fiat currency was pegged to petrol 50 years ago so that petrol’s ultra low economic efficiency would artificially create scarcity to keep the power and wealth of a paid off capital class alive in a post capital era. People work way, way more than they have to to keep them tired and their standard of living is going backwards because of petrol. Its also putting everyone’s life at increasing risk by the day. It is the source of most of the conflict and trouble in the world and its property model couldn’t be more backwards and regressive. Its literally so bad that there would probably be less a lot less nuclear proliferation in the world if we’d switched to a straight fission energy base in 1950. But as it is we finally have a no compromise orders of magnitude superior over night replacement in the markets right now thanks in large part to Germany and China.
SAFE will be key to helping people understand this as fast as humanly possible and key to helping them act on it, including act on the prosecution of the petrol posse which should have happened even before the W. Admin. SAFE will also help remove the Machiavellian fools and psychopaths from politics. If the act accuses but the result excuses, let them be on notice that the act will now lead to them becoming an example of how not to act for all history- the only good kind of ad- a warning about obsolete assumptions and ways of behaving.
I’m not convinced on Tesla, and I have reason to think otherwise…
Musk is not currying favor well, and he might even be caught up in some naughty business. Beyond that, most of his companies are wildly subsidized. I’m all about alternative energy, free health care, UBI, whatever…as long as the “other guy” pays for it. I could be wrong, but my sense is that complex collateral damage and unintentional consequences haven’t been thought through all the way…or if they have, then these people are simply diabolical. Rather that seek out and worship the next temporary god of tech I’d rather find out how to unleash the dam of patents that are hiding in corporate coffers. Serco?
I don’t buy into the cult of Musk or Tesla I just see it as justice manifesting. If not Tesla then another. But to me Tesla is showing a complete cord cutting solution. Its like when the NY night light up for the first time with household electric light.
But as for subsidy, spacex would seem to be the bigger recipient then Tesla. And I realize Tax has always been the biggest demand creator I don’t think there has ever been a more radically over the top subsidy recipient than petrol fuel energy.
Noticed a recent year where direct state subsidies were 1.6 trillion but petrol fuel/energy’s total revenue was 1.2 trillion but out of that 400 billion in pure subsidy it still paid massive undue profits and dividends and incurred massive destabilizing debt plus (insured by blind derivatives that you can’t audit because its such bad risk due to low economic efficiency) another 6-7 trillion in indirect state sunsidies as externality costs. But I don’t think this was a unique year I don’t believe petrol had ever been revenue positive let alone profitable in its history.
No, this was not unique due to permanent low economic efficiency (%13) from an industry with mature tech that is built out and at scale. I don’t presume the supply is limited but that makes no difference. Also note the real value of these firms is less than zero as their assets are not only politically stranded (at least 75%) but are economically stranded as ready alternative has no intermittancy issue (no need even for pumped hydro) and is not only below parity but is at about 3 cents a kwh and has cost reduced 17000x since introduction and will cost reduce on a Moore’s law curve another 17000x where it ultillmately really is essentially free but without dangerious energy concentration or added heat polution and do so at 90% efficiency free from speculation while also providing for an insurmountable cost of goods strategic advantage to countries that cut the cord.
Half of US people are on cash aid to remain above the global paririty purchasing power per capita level or poverty line in the US or above about 12k per year. So in the case of Walmart almost all of its workers and half of its customers are on cash aid- Walmart is a fully subsidized government tax floated operation down its bonuses and dividends and its phoney apparently unnecssary profits (surplus beyond capex) but so are the rest of the fortune 1000. People don’t get that fiat currency is quantized demand even the uselessly petrol pegged kind (pegged to create artificial scarcity) and that money is just a function of tax and that the gov only ever buys demand and at that only to get people to identify with a society to work their crowd control. Regardless, petrol beyond about 1950 was the worst kind of subsidy, an actually criminal kind by 1970 or so when it was pegged.
David Iche says attempts at a carbon tax are an illuminist conspiracy to fund a global state but I see petrol as the money behind the conspiracy and its all stolen money since about 1950 when real alternatives arose. If we’d had built energy on pure fisile basis, save for a Fallout 4 scenario we’d have likely had less proliferation. Petrol has been the scam of the ages for 70 years and its sub threshold mine from pluto level of economic physical efficiency means its needed one bailout (phoney wars and its debt inducing financial collapses)after another each increasingly worse with greater and greater hollowing out austerity.
Serco is the UK company that owns/controls the US patent office. Can someone say conflict of interest. It’s a deep rabbit hole.
I don’t really see oil as the problem as much as oil-backed currency and the price-control cabal behind it all. Get the popcorn out. Steel, coal, gold…it’s all connected. Bye bye FED.
Well I think it made sense to subsidize petrol fuel energy for the first 70 years but by 90 years in we should have transitioned and at least stopped subsidizing it and surely never pegged the US currency to it.
Can’t wait for the day we have moved past the term “MaidSafe” to just SAFE Network and SAFECoin(which will happen on network release for me, not once will I ever refer to the term “maidsafe” again from then on ), I get people thought it would be a catchy acronym but nope, those comments are ALWAYS the exact comments people make new to the space. Tupperware containers and house cleaning is the internal spirit image of the projects name indefinitely under its current name lol. Oh well, its to be expected hah, much like Piedpiper is a terrible name as well MaideSafe helped pave the road, and landed a sweet consulting gig to birth Piedpiper heh. Did you notice their ICO on show debuted at 7x MAID coin value at a whopping 7 cents per coin ! I think it was on low volume tho so MAID def won on initial capital raise though .
Oh plz no, then you will have to change your name to SwissHomeless when we all go broke . I can see it now though, PP-MSC, the coin to BE! (slogan) . We also need obligatory videos of MaidSafe staff pretending to give presentations then beginning to vomit as is tradition on Silicon Valley HBO show lol.
Almost 2 million viewers watch Silicon Valley, at some point or another they will Google for Pied-piper net or coin…
Making a massive assumption here, most of those viewers are crypto savy and comfortable buying crypto.
Marketed correctly, satisfying the curiosity of 2 million people… We will have a large user boost on launch.
We should probably type “SAFENetwork (the real world Piedpiper network)” in forum posts and tweets so search engines pick it up.
E.g. The SAFEDevCon18 (the real world Piedpiper network conference) this year was awesome. Can’t believe the awesome fictional Network is a real thing!!
Maidsafe being advisors, would be nice to get a reference to SAFEnetwork on the wiki page,
