We’re announcing the Impossible Futures Season 1 winners in our biggest X Spaces event yet. We’ll be announcing the winning projects and distributing $100,000 in prizes for the pioneer builders and community backers who were ahead of the curve. And we’ll also be digging into where this takes us beyond big tech.
I will be watching this prestigious event in black tie and tails.
Mrs Southside is torn between the LBD and a more luxurious ivory satin off the shoulder creation from Mavis de Twechar. Champagne and black pudding suppers have been ordered.
Meanwhile, back in reality, where is Dave and exactly what is getting done about Pointers and ongoing Scratchpad problems???
I wouldn’t hold your breath. After the last X Spaces—which was advertised to absolutely nobody—Bux made it clear that we need DAVE, Indelible and the IF projects functional before any serious marketing can commence. While I can totally understand that point of view, I am afraid that it will be another 3-6 months of tinkering, excuses and the usual delays before we see anything resembling marketing. This is nothing more than a vanity project for about a half dozen people.
Yup. It’s funny because when this project first started they could have used the excuse that they were one of the first and no one really knew how to effectively launch and market something like this. Now there are so many examples of how this is done in the DLT space. As someone who poured countless hours and energy into supporting this project, it’s honestly just painful to watch at this point.
Imagine 6,12, 24, 36, 48, 60 months from now when hundreds and thousands of indy/ local tech communities are pushing prospective projects up into the IF exposure engine?
IF = Genius level framing with huge potential, Don Draper (Mad Men) would approve.
We have all been incredibly patient to date … keep on on trucking
I like the idea of IF, but I hope lessons have been learned about the format.
The top 3 projects got pushed hard by investors, to guarantee a return. This left the rest of the projects in the cold. Indeed, some good projects didn’t even get past the first hurdle.
I’m glad those top 3 projects will receive rewards for their efforts. It’s exciting to see them come to life. I just think the format was a bit of an own goal for encouraging lots more than 3 projects.
IF is still a net positive and it’s a step in the right direction.
As I understand it, the weighting was set such that they could pick the winners, even if maidsafe judges gave maximum marks to others. I’d love to be proved wrong, but that was the vibe on discord at the time.
Edit: And as investors get a return based on who wins, it meant they were better to go all in on the top 3. As I say, it’s been a while, but it deflated my efforts in IMIM, as I switched focus back to AntTP (which had broader reach/benefits).
USDC Cash Prizes
Only applies to backers of the top 3 prize-winning apps — and only if you backed in the first week.
1st — $25,000
2nd — $10,000
3rd — $5,000
These are split among early backers of those apps, proportional to their Pledge Points
Combined with:
The Main prizes are decided by :
60%: The amount of Pledge Points a project has gathered.
40%: By the judging panel’s criteria
So, pledgers could push the top 3 so that anything out of it would be too low on points to change the outcode (as only 40% from judges).
Edit: anyway, if those top 3 apps end up awesome, the community benefits either way. In that respect, IF will have been a success regardless, along with the positive publicity. I think lessons could be learned for next time though.
Perhaps it would be better if rewards were proportional to backing (maybe even logarithmically), so that every project could receive support and be motivated? Or maybe just keep backing overalls secret?
In all fairness, this is the base layer of the new internet. It has to be flawless before we can even talk about it—see the ICO in ’14. We have to be able to touch and feel it, like Fartcoin. Nevermind that was once declared impossible has now been achieved. Once we polish this turd just a bit more, we can absolutely regain the first mover advantage and network effects we have squandered over the last decade. Guaranteed.
