Overall electricity consumption seems to be a hot topic these days. Will the SAFEnet have similar electricity consumption issues like btc?

No, it doesn’t use a blockchain or proof of work, so it’s going to be energy efficient. Only a few nodes are involved in each transaction so it can handle lots of transactions, without fees, at high speed, and using very little energy.

In the safe network people are rewarded for supplying data not for supplying hashes like the miners - so it incentives efficient storage/data supply solutions and not efficient hashing rates =)
