Okay I tried changing my pin and making a new account (again). No dice. No upload. Same result.
same here…(extra characters…)
If you go down the posted safe url list you’ll notice the safe version of a 404 error quite a few times. Some safe sites work, others don’t. I wonder how many other people are having this issue and perhaps don’t know it yet.
I think the problem comes from duplicate public IDs.
I just created google.safenet (I chose it because I thought that very probably it was already assigned to someone else)
So I created a template under www, and it is very strange that:
- It doesn’t show the www service I just created (this was what I was expecting)
- But also it lists two services that I haven’t created at all (quite unexpected)
Whoever created google.safenet/ very probably didn’t have any credential resembling mine, so this is quite puzzling.
And yet, if I click on Edit Files, they appear empty… BUT
In the search subdomain, nothing appears… but what happens if you move one folder up?
Moving back out again, to see if www is listed?
Nope, it is not. Only moon and search are listed.
I guess the culprit of all this mess is the duplicate public ID that is allowed in “Create Public ID”, it should be validated and blocked its duplication if someone else is using it.
Yep! I came to the same conclusion as well. I wish I had seen this thread, but i was too focused on my site and other things.
Your solution came an hour before mine. Instead of waking up to play around with a VM, I could’ve just checked this thread. Jeez! Well at least I don’t have to fill out a bug report.
To recapitulate:
- Only the first person who creates the public ID can Manage Websites and Files
- If your the second in line, using the same public ID, you only see the domain name the first person made whatever website you create appear as {“errorCode”:-1004,“description”:“DnsError::ServiceNotFound”}
- Also worth noting:
*If the second person using the same public ID makes a website starting with www even before the first person, they get to see {“errorCode”:-1004,“description”:“DnsError::ServiceNotFound”} and the domain appears without the www as http://eddyofcourse.safenet/
*When the first person who created the public ID makes a website starting with www, it overwrites the original from the second person and the website appears as http://eddyofcourse.safenet/, with no error message at all.
Hmmmmm actually is this not the way to monitor someone if you got their public ID? because every new website they create with that public ID, is viewable for the person in line using that same public ID.
To avoid confusions lets define some terms:
Original Public ID Holder: the first one who gets a Public ID assigned.
Duplicated Public ID Holder: another guy who chooses the same Public ID as the original.
It doesn’t override, it doesn’t replace the site of the Original Public ID Holder…
It is uploaded to the Duplicated Public ID Holder’s account, but those are inaccessible because the public ID is duplicated, and they are not listed in the “Manage Services” menu.
The only way you can see the list of the files and folders you uploaded to your /Public/ is only by clicking on the “Edit Files”, but by the services that the original Public ID holder has created.
If the service listed wasn’t created by you (but by the original public ID holder), it won’t show the files, instead you will be browsing your own unlisted /Public/
btw, it is not exclusive to www/, it happens with any subdomain.
To exemplify, I’ll show you what happened to my own sites,
I created two websites with my original account, and they are listed in “Manage Services” in both original and duplicated accounts. In this case I am logged in in my duplicated account.
In my duplicated account I tried several times to publish websites with different names and lenghts, but none of them were showing up. But I was sure I saw the process of uploading them, so where were they?
So you click on any “Edit File” of any subdomain created by the original public ID holder, in my case I click on the one in “prueba”, and shows the content of the folder “prueba”, but as the duplicated public ID’s hasn’t created such folder nor content it shows empty.
If we move one folder up, voila, it lists all my frantic attempts of publishing from my duplicated public ID.
If the original public ID holder hasn’t created any subdomain, then the duplicated user can’t even check his own public files.
This is possibly what happened to me as before I got a chance to fiddle with sites and what not (while I was still figuring out the pac file) I forgot my credentials and had to make a new account. Poof! Pub ID with no sub domains. Annoying but such things happen.
Wait it was my understanding that every account and pub ID got assigned it’s own special ID number or something so this kind of thing wouldn’t happen? So why is this happening? I’m confused.
Btw so far I’ve been trying to upload on Win 7. Haven’t tried yet on Fedora yet. Launcher is 0.36.9.0 and Demo app is 0.36.9.0
There is something else that is confusing: as you said, the Demo App file version according to the properties in windows is 0.36.9.0, but when you authorize the app on the launcher, it appears as 0.0.1
So which one is it?
