His concerns are not the problem, its his attitude that bugged me. He calls himself ‘ifindproblems’ so he should read the links posted on the thread by the community members more thoroughly and ask more questions before assuming problems without doing the relevant testing or research to back up his claims. All hype and no proof. my guess is he knows very little about testing software and is probably a trader with a short position, spreading FUD without any understanding of how the safe network operates. He didn’t even know what language the software was written in… so i can’t take this guy’s pen testing ability seriously.
The concerns are not the problem, because it is not applicable.
The overall concern of finding a security flaw is valid, and I think we all agree that we need SERIOUS audits to see if it holds water. But if you read the thread itself, it doesn’t give the professional vibe, but the teenager that learned metasploit and considers himself a pentester.
In any case, welcome to the forum lol.
Yeah, I don’t really care honestly, it’s just that closing the thread was uncalled for, he’s not the first with an average attitude, not a reason to stop the conversation. Anyway, when we get on Safe we won’t have that kind of situation anymore, I expect a lot from your web of trust @Seneca, can’t wait to see the details on that. Have a good night everyone.
And I didn’t even hear about the distinction between running a vault and running a client. Just “connect to SAFE” like it was one piece of software…
Reading this thread and talking with the other mods, I am re-opening the original thread.
Going forward, please keep in mind that this thread deserves:
- A thorough understanding of the Network
- An understanding this is an Alpha Network and not meant to be stress-tested (that’s more for beta )
- Hack the protocol, not the servers/end users
- Please specify whether you’re talking about vaults or clients
- Realize that problems inherent with client-server architectures are not applicable here.
- Which means that all existing hacking toolkits and frameworks are inapplicable here.
Well done mods. Lets hope this never happens again and the community decides when enough is enough.
Hopefully the aforementioned rules are not a trend towards stifling any attempt to dig deep into this very public network. genuine or otherwise. That is one slippery slope.
Most people make assumptions re coding and C++ as in Rust is pretty recent to the stage. The dialogue that he started was clearly fruitful and thats the point of dialogue. Maybe he is a short seller AND a pen tester. I know seasoned chemists that are shortsellers in big pharma because they know better than most. Being a shortseller is no crime and challenging Maidsafe is no crime.
Before you claim FUD see if there are any benefits derived from the discussion because there are HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people who have NO
