On the Roads with Dave – One Year in the World of the Autonomous Internet

Scratchpads are limited to 4MB and IIRC cost 10x the cost of a chunk (which is also up to 4MB).

In ant  we’ll see when fees become less of the economic factor

Have you considered that paying one node for the batch is game-able. Still pay the fees, but effectively no token for TB’s of file uploads. Ask if you want to know how, its easy and straight forward. While paying 3 (or 1) nodes per record it is not usable to save anything, but once you upload more than 1 record per payment it is.

You’re making assumptions about the solution there though, will give you the full rundown when it’s ready. Good progress being made.

No worries, this gaming is relatively agnostic to the solution. You might be the one to be surprised. And the solution while in flux has already been signalled anyhow. Reading around helps  In any case the gaming really only relies on the fact its one node being paid per batch.

Can you alos post these results to discord once the upload fix for larger files is in place, here on the forum is nice but it feels like preaching to the choir, it might be more helpful to new people finding Autonomi and the discord server.

This seems to be significantly cheaper per MB in ETH fees than any of the uploads so far, which is very good news!

Was the new version of Dave with reduced ETH fees the cause of this?

Yes, this is with the new version, although the Dave interface still says 0.2, probably a technical error…

Just wanna point out that currently, in the Dave interface, the upload time indicated includes the time it takes for you to receive and make the payment for the upload.

So it’s not by itself indicative of the time taken to upload the file or the performance of the network. It’s quite a squidgy measure at the mo!

Will be changing that shortly, though.

In this case, it’s about perception — as a user, I care about time, not the technical speed of data transfer. My life is measured in minutes, so what matters to me is the total time I spend waiting to get a price quote and complete the upload.

Yes, the time that passes from you initiating the upload to the moment you can be sure it is successful is the one that counts.

Yes, just a bit misleading isn’t it? To label it? Upload time because this isn’t the time it takes to upload to file. Like it happens to me all the time that I initiate the thing, and then I get distracted and then I come back to it and it looks like it’s spent 40 minutes uploading a tiny file. We should probably have phases to it to make it more useful like pending, waiting for payment, uploading, etc. So it’s more indicative of what’s actually happening.

I usually upload files during my kid’s nap time — that sacred window of peace. I stare at my phone like a sniper, finger ready on the “Pay” button. So trust me, the time shown here is pretty much spot-on for how long it actually takes from hitting “Upload” to getting the data address.
