MaidSafe Dev Update - 14th June 2016 - TEST 4

Did we just have another big disconnect? The vault on my laptop which has been working flawlessly all day despite being moved through at least 3 diferent wi-fi APs has gone from a routing table of 78 to 2 and then back up to 66.

still running for me. Iā€™m currently on 86.

Seems to have picked up since this morning which is encouraging.

Long while ago, I had some issue with the laptop tripping from ethernet onto wireless and not falling back and the vault seemed to stall. I didnā€™t take time to look into that but half thought was it was getting confused and losing itā€™s baring - as the wireless has different local ip address, I donā€™t know if that affects the external perception of the vault.

After running an hour or three, here is the last several minutes.

I donā€™t know enough of what information is useful in that but posting just to suggest it seems there can be large variance in ā€˜(Request/Success/Failure)ā€™.

Which I wonder suggests that if you run a launcher alongside your vault and have a poorer experience, perhaps your bandwidth and resources are not helping the network move faster. In a large network perhaps vaults below average will be useful but too many slow vaults in a small network will have higher impact?

I donā€™t know much of practical routes to limiting node creation but wonder x1 per CPU is easier to implement than x1 per IP. If a nodeā€™s neighbours can see it hasnā€™t the bandwidth, perhaps they can shun that node - or pass a message to it that it could alert itā€™s owner of their opinion.

What will the demo app be called in its final iteration? I assume it will continue to exist.

No the list is empty as soon as I login. The demo app never quits/logs out etc. Although I just tested a bit more and with the launcher closed if I try to navigate the demo app it will then say itā€™s not logged in.

The process to reproduce this is:
open safe launcher and log in
open demo app and allow permission
close safe launcher
open safe launcher and login
Nothing in permissions list

If you like I can make a quick video tomorrow. Iā€™m on Ubuntu 14.04 with latest safe binaries and apt-get up to date. Itā€™s a fairly fresh os install (approx 5 weeks).

On Mint here and Iā€™ve seen times that the launcher GUI closed and yet the process is still running, and yesterday I swear I saw two of them. Usually that is when Iā€™ve crashed out of it for itā€™s stalling during upload or not responding quickly enough to me.

If you run
ps aux | grep 'launcher'
you can see if there is a safe launcher process running when the GUI is closed, that would allow the app to continue, though itā€™s odd a new launcher starts without challenging the port is unavailable.

i just thought iā€™d upload a short video (this time only ~3.3MB ā€¦ only the first minute of the original video ā€¦ my internet is too slow and iā€™m 2 impatient to try&upload a larger file today =) )

Are these the first working " decentralized sites" we have been able to test as public?

  • How is this testnet going so far guys?

some of them - there already were a couple of testnets for different purposes ( SAFE Network Client Testing Commences Dev Update & 2nd Test Network Release :safe: 8th March 2016 Stable Droplet Test Network Join the NEW Community Test Network (Running Now): "community1" ) and since [quote=ā€œViv, post:165, topic:9829ā€]
Donā€™t think weā€™re too far off from network size 3000 already  it seems like this network already has at a minimum 1800+ nodes right now

Iā€™d say it is a huge success

So, I start a launcher, donā€™t log inā€¦ to visit that site http://fanny.craddock.safenet/ and notice that the site loads fine and immediately to the end of its loading, the launcher suggests errors. Yet, I canā€™t see why that would occur from the simple source code on that being a template. I was expecting broken links or some suchā€¦ maybe Iā€™m tired and there is something obvious?
