Your bittrex balance and where those maid are located are different things.

Bittex made the transfer to the indicated address so it deducted those maid from your account. What it didn’t do is check that the transaction was incorrect and it still owns those maid.

The only option is to open a ticket with all the information and see if you are lucky enough to get your maid back. Bittrex still has over seven million maid in its wallet.

Think we should all be greatful to @digipl for this bit of detective work.

Now everyone who sent maid safe coins to an address begining with bc1 knows there coins never left the bittrex wallet and should open a ticket.

I cannot agree more with that. Its simple, repeatable, and minimum costs for everyone in terms of transfer fees. At up to 40 - 60 USD this represents a lot of money wasted. It is a simple command to the omni core to extract every address with a balance of omni-MAID

iirc, @mav wrote or adapted some tool(s) that read the entire btc blockchain and keep track of omni/maid movements. I think he was posting stats generated by these tools in the past.

So with his expertise/experience, perhaps he could (easily?) adapt the tools to track MAID sent to bc1 addrs.

No need to track BTC as the omni core will see it all. Omni protocol won’t allow sending to BC1 addresses it seems

yeah… that’s the point. stock omni software doesn’t check for data sent to BC1 addrs. So it doesn’t “see it all” for the specific case we are discussing. But a modified version could.

hi @neo. maybe we are talking past eachother?

Here is my understanding. Please correct if I have any facts or understanding wrong.

  1. somehow a transaction was created that sent omni (MAID) funds to a bc1 address. This has been verified on a block explorer here.
  2. Omni Core 0.9.0 (unmodified) does not allow sending to BC1 addrs.
  3. It is possible that the Tx was created with custom/modified software, ie not the stock omni client. It is also possible to craft custom “raw” bitcoin transactions using the standard bitcoin-core client or API. Regardless the how is not so interesting as the fact that the Tx exists, and others might possibly exist.
  4. Omni software does not check for the existence of omni tokens in BC1 outputs, because that is presently not allowed by omni code/protocol.
  5. What @dirvine and others are saying is that despite (4) we could still check for the existence of tokens in BC1 outputs, either manually or in automated fashion.
  6. I was suggesting that @mav might have some tools that could assist with automating (5).

maybe i’m a bit slow here - but i think there is a difference between

  • valid bitcoin transaction to bc1 and where the bitcoin end up being (on the bc1 address)
  • valid omni token transaction and where the MAID end up being (on the sending address - so the colored bitcoin loose their color when sending to bc1 because bc1 are not supported by omni and as @neo/@digipl pointed out that from their github info the bc1 address gets replaced with the sending address by the omni protocol (?))

but that’s just how i interpreted the past conversation :man_shrugging:

I am going on what others uncovered and “facts” changed as more was uncovered

That was my understanding.

Remember Omni encodes on a btc tx that only has a tiny BTC amount, but when you send you give a lot more, so at the low level of omni protocol this btc amount must be split into multiple transactions. And from the last information omni protocol sends back the omni asset to the address that sent it if a send to a bc1 address is attempted.

Also remember that it is the omni core that interprets every btc transaction to find omni asset transactions to build its database of the omni transactions and balances.

But the maid never ends up at the destination address but is returned to the sending address.

my balance at bittrex is 0 maid , but still waiting for reply on my ticket, doubt they will refund my maid tbh

I am afraid so. If the amount lost were very high, you could consider threatening a lawsuit since you can prove, thanks to the blockchain, that these maid are still in the hands of Bittrex.

But the big problem here is that Bittrex made the withdrawal and that the error comes from the customer. Fixing this error needs a specific action by the exchange that can be difficult to perform (lack of staff, internal permissions, security…).

tbh Im so sick of blockchains. I will not manage financialy to invest any more in maid, I live in the east part of the world so it’s alot of money for me. GL everyone.

Some early stats on omni transactions with the same to and from address (looking at the btc explorer these all seem to be sends to bc1 addresses). More data still coming in, will take a few days at least to get it all.

Great work @mav can you post the full results when you have them in ?

Pretty sure the transaction for 25 coins in 2021 was me testing out my Trezor and finding out the bc1 address didn’t work.

Hi Dimitar, which in this range do you recommend? Trezor strongly recommends against downgrading. And if i scroll down on the link it says about firmware 1.9.1 “but it always erases the wallet.”… I have used the older firmware before, but accidentally deleted it, and forgot which one it was.
