I am going to acquire control of a storage server with 30TB 1gbps and am looking for those who would for a portion of it help run it. I was thinking maybe using it’s 256 unique ips and splitting it up into virtual machines to acquire more chances to earn safecoin. And Or adding Ether (ethereum) production later too maybe and take advantage of some of 32GB of ram it has. I been trying to learn how to operate servers for this but I think I need partners who know this stuff.
Actually I will probably get two of these servers if I find people interested in running them…
Have a photo or model number of what kind of server you got…?
This is great news also @cryptocashdw in that you’re interested in keeping the network up when it goes live
that sounds really awesome I would really be interested in helping you with that product and just let me know what you need.
also let me know if you get any more servers that you need help with financially.
hey dolly you have any information when safe farming will start.
Certainly, do @IMHOTEP111 check out this post and that thread:
CPU: Intel Atom

RAM: 32 GB DDR3 ECC 1600MHz
Disks: 5x 6 TB SAS2

Public network card: 1x 1 Gbps
that’s a sweet machine,
does it have two of those Intel Atom C2750’s
also do you have a brand, recommended operating system that runs this machine?
Do you have it physically, or is it a cloud instance?

Distinguish the types of distributions
Two types of distributions are available for your dedicated servers: “basic” and “ready to use” distributions. The “basic” as Debian, Centos, Ubuntu LTS distributions offer total freedom of configuration and flexibility - perfect for general distributions. “Ready to use” distributions are specialized and customized for specific uses: virtualization, web hosting, email, games, etc…
Good deal
Enjoy free licences (Licenses Windows Server, Panel, Direct Admin …) with the Dedicated Server Hosting plans!
What OS do you needs?
Choosing a distribution for many SYS Admin is a matter of “religion” (Windows Server Linux Server VS VS X).
However, here are some criteria that will help you:
-
Updates: If for you, having the latest version of your distribution is a priority “rolling release” distributions or the ones with very short release cycles will be ideal. For example: ArchLinux, Fedora or Gentoo. Distributions like Debian are among the slow cycle: they undergo fewer changes than the “rolling release” but often have the advantage of being more stable.
-
Your use: Distributions for virtualization allow you to create VM (Virtual Machine) in a few seconds. “Control Panel” distribution types are ideal for delivering web and mail hosting. All distributions can operate in “single-server” mode, but some are more suitable for infrastructure. If you prefer web interface other command line interface, you can choose Proxomox VE, SolusVM or VMware ESXi.
I have had a discussion about this before and back then there was nobody who can give me a clear answer because there is (or was?) no test data yet but these machines will probably not be suitable for maidsafe at all.
The reason is that one should focus more on the CPU and less on the storage. The atom CPU (I have one in a NAS at home) is simply not powerful enough to cope with encryption routines I would expect.
If I use a simple stunnel (SSL) TCP connection to 8 unique IP’s and try to max out my connection I will hit the CPU bottleneck around 60 to 90 Mbps whilst without SSL I can easily get to 150 to 200Mbps, thats line saturation for me.
Combine that with the more complex encryption routines, probably even more connection endpoint and maybe even disk encryption and hashing, you will max out your CPU way before you even get close to getting decent bandwidth.
Just my two cents but I think they are worth taking a look at
I just started a job and now should be able to purchase this server instead… yay!!
