I had a successful convo with @riddim earlier this evening. Unfortunately the logs have already rolled over in my console so I no longer see them. I tried readding you as a friend, are you able to see my request? FYI, I was running from the dweb binary side car in the latest version of Colony.
I reloaded and now I see your friend request
Looks like its working now ![]()
So you can get Friends and Colony running OK together now?
Colony v1.1.6 ?
yep, 1.1.6 works like a charm.
We need much wider screens ![]()
F5 was a bad idea ![]()
hey @riddim , ran into a UI bug when @Southside and I were trying this out. If you write a really long line, the chat window extends way beyond the edge of the screen to compensate and I can no longer see what I’m typing
Edit: F5ing the screen resets the weirdness after the session reconnects
Because then the conversation is empty again xD - but with offline messages this won’t be the case anymore… So I need to fix this kind of soon xD
Thank you very much for reporting ![]()
@riddim , about security, the chat’s seems pretty much secure from anyone outside the chat. But is my IP revealed to the other party of the chat? This is relevant when starting new chats with strangers. We may not want to reveal our whereabouts to just anyone.
ohoh maybe I should add a disclaimer xD … it has some flaws that don’t open your conversations to anybody … but it’s not precisely bulletproof for state like actors I guess (the current encryption key derivation chain e.g. Is not 100% protected against people in your house - ideally with access to your pc… But then again with PC access everything is probably too late anyway…)
Since webrtc is a direct p2p communication without intermediaries this means your contacts need to know your ip address (except for with offline messages… So a stealth mode - ideally only for single entities in your contact list would probably fit your requirement with hidden ip too)
… With using stealth mode and with some dweb extensions that I need to get to a properly secured derivation chain then security level would be very high.
In my opinion it would be great to have stealth as default, because…. children. Don’t anyone think about the children? It’s horrible. Children need anonymity more than anyone else!
Joking aside I am really thinking about my child (amongst other things) and all the creeps online. I wouldn’t direct her to use Friends in a scenario of the future when she is just old enough to use a phone, and Friends is already a popular app - if her IP would be revealed by default.
Don’t anyone think about the children!
… At least in Germany the ip doesn’t help anybody a lot without a search warrant I think… I’d be much more concerned about the content of the chats than just an ip being exchanged (which changes every 24h anyway)
@Southside @riddim neowashere and neo want to be your friends. Yea doing a split thing here.
@riddim I could get two accounts on the one PC/browser to see each other as online together. Is that even possible as the instructions/doco suggests it is
@neowashere accepted ![]()
@riddim All the new friends I made over past couple of days have vanished - along with my avatar and Public IDs ![]()
Won’t let me talk to you, says you are offline
“last seen a minute ago”
Both and both running in separate tabs. I tried the talk to myself that Riddim suggested in the docs
Maybe that is the issue? Maybe should only run one at a time
I closed the neo one. And only have neowashere open
Dunno weirdness here.
Like it reverted to an old state…
sniff sniff
Im on the release candidate
willie@gagarin:~/formicaio$ ant --version
Autonomi Client v0.4.6-rc.1
Network version: ant/1.0/1
Package version: 2025.9.1.1
Git info: rc-2025.9.1 / 3b8e866 / 2025-08-29
no having multiple open shouldn’t be an issue.
I think I saw issues with firefox and local discovery; I recommend chromium
… but with mDNS active you should see your 2 windows connect locally…
that would mean that a version of your account package reappeared from before all that and you did the migration again -.-" … sorry about that but working with that outdated data wouldn’t have been a good idea either … so not really sure how to handle such a situation tbh …
I’ll install brave on this linux box then. Its less resource brutal than Chrome
