:IF: Friends - the messenger you'll never want to move away from

that’s it. When starting dweb, there is a message:

Failed to load wallet for payments - client will only have read accesss to Autonomi

No, it doesn’t. So how is that possible? I just checked my .bashrc file and the last line of that file is

export SECRET_KEY=<my_private_key>

And you closed and reopened the terminal - right?

source ~/.bashrc

Would work alternatively to reopening the terminal

yes closed and reopened terminal many times. When trying source ~/.bashrc, I get:

bash: /home/parallels/.bashrc: line 121: syntax error near unexpected token `newline’

bash: /home/parallels/.bashrc: line 121: `export SECRET_KEY=<my_private_key>

I’ve added @riddim and nadir as friends and tried to chat them but without success. It says ‘Connect first to send messages’ in the box for typing messages and the ‘Send’ button is greyed out. I can’t see how to Connect. Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere.

This is what I see:-

This was by starting Friends with ./dweb-darwin-arm64 open friends but I did try the ./dweb-darwin-arm64 open friends -v 10 option as well with the same result.

accepting on both

concurrent requests/approvals we’ll see how well that will work :tada:

a bit strange is that you should see my avatar loaded in the chat-window with riddim :open_mouth:

i See - it works now - still strange but probably something that happened on friendship-handshake-setup-whatever …

It works! I’ve been in conversation with @riddim

So it works with just ./dweb-darwin-arm64 open friends once dweb serve is running.

I have some non tech RL friends I want to get on here and it’s just about feasible with a bit of coaching. So this is amazing! A functioning messaging app on the network that shows it can work well.

can you just completely delete the line again and try adding it again (maybe copy and pasting the line into a text editor and copying from there again) … I suspect there’s an invisible character that breaks your .bashrc …

and no tricks - all on mainnet - handshake through scratchpads - search via global name + contact exchange via friendship request!

this worked better/smoother than I expected without the testing I wanted to do before releasing!

I tried few times, deleting, adding again, adding on first line of the .bashrc, copying from TXT, etc. Still the same. How can I get stuck on the last, supposedly easiest step? :joy:

okay - do you get the same error if you completely remove the export line?

If I completely remove it, I get no error, no message.

Seems like I am creating my account Tom:

@riddim how can I actually send you a message? It seems like the button doesn’t work

One moment - I need to accept your request - that needs to be shown in the ui I guess…

okay. I am soo excited, is there a list somewhere of all those great friends who successfully created their accounts? Maybe that could be in the first post, too - the list of some community members which we can connect with

I’ve released public identifiers and friendship requests just a few hours ago - the others that used friends before had to exchange Scratchpad addresses manually (in the last release one address per friend they wanted to connect to) so you and @storage_guy are - except for me - the first users of the new version with friendship requests and option for searchable public names :face_with_monocle:

Wow, I never thought of being such a pioneer :joy: my Tom handle is permanent now? If yes, dear friends, you can send me a request :slightly_smiling_face:

if you set it up/down there people can search for you and send you requests

(the underlying technology will most certainly change in a future upgrade but it will automatically re-register your public name on login when it is saved in your account package; I will tag you when I change the mentioned underlying tech things and you need to login to re-register your Tom handle)

I made F5 as you suggested but now I can’t reconnect. Okay, so in the settings I should update my public handle to Tom - and this username is tied to my Metamask wallet, is that correct?
