Anybody done this before?
Ive built a few mirrors and added to them in the distant past but Ive never needed to actually break one. Now with 2x2TB mirrored SSDs in my rented box, I’d like to break the mirror, preserve the data on disk0 and use LVM on the other disk to give me max room to run 35Gb nodes.
I’ve read man mdadm and think I need to first mark one drive as “failed” then remove it.
I’ve got till next week to rebuild this server from scratch if need be but Im lazy.
We have RAID hdd at some servers at work (HP hardware and intel software inside windows)
When a drive fails the intel program gives a warning. We remove the broken drive and the system still boots on the remaining drive. Next day we plug a new drive and let the intel prog rebuild the mirror to the new drive in background, after some hours everything is green again.
So if your system is set up the same way, just rip one out💪🏼
