A comparison between CESS and the SafeNetwork

It came to my attention that there is another project trying to establish the same usecase as the Safe Network. They seem pretty far development wise and also have a testnet running currently:

Recent investment from VC: https://cointelegraph.com/news/decentralized-storage-platform-cess-raises-8-million-13-vc-funds

It be nice to have a topic for discussing their design and methods compared to ours.
From my understanding and limited research, it seems to have identical features, but with a blockchain instead for payment, with a set price for storage.

About CESS

CESS (Cumulus Encrypted Storage System) is a blockchain powered decentralized storage and content delivery network (CDN) infrastructure for Web3. Users and creators alike use the platform for on-chain data sharing, whilst builders can develop and deploy DApps.

Offering the most optimal Web3 solution for storing and retrieving high-frequency dynamic data, CESS reshapes the value distribution and circulation of data assets whilst ensuring data sovereignty and user privacy.

By utilizing a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) model, CESS drives mass deployment of network nodes globally through incentives.

  1. It’s not really a network for home use - it’s more for developers and CDN use.

  2. It’s not applicable as a payment network - it’s system is pretty much solely for the payment for data storage, so limiting it’s functionality.

  3. I’m not certain how effective SAFE will be as a CDN for the open web (it would need bridges?). Safe is for home user storage and also an attempt to build a separate Internet and not really about providing functionality for the existing Internet.

So I think that CESS and SAFE are serving different sectors and have different purposes. CESS appears to be for the developer niche and SAFE is for everyone.
