We use replication for this, so yes it’s similar.
The issue is in the first point, can you really republish data that should be stored ?
Issue 1: What if I claimed to have stored data - will the network now replicate my data for me (and what if it was safecoin etc. safecoin == very important data, need not be a currency)
issue2: In a whole network outage this issue is dramatically amplified, who can believe anyones data they try and republish ?
There are several other issues as well that need a better solution for republish. We used to have more persistence in nodes, but it hides the crime basically. The crime being the network is open to injection attacks and these can be unlimited in size.
There are solutions, but not straightforward. More to come in this area soon after mvp/beta (most likely beta)
