What do you think about using a SAFE female sticker?

SAFE tattoo there looks like a snowflake not melting.

We should avoid pandering to bland.

latch’s comment above makes sense re repeated appearance on official updates but I don’t see an issue to date… useful prompt to be mindful that SAFE is for everyone.

You weren’t all wrong. The main potential problem with it is copyright/licensing/fair use issues.

I agree that it’s not good for official use, but only with regard to image quality and originality of the artwork… Not because it causes a few snowflakes to melt.

The site from which I downloaded it said that it was free for non-commercial purposes. Everything I use I make sure it is so…

Good to know. I always figured the first SAFE AI would be a female persona called Sophia or Sofia. Who better than a Bulgarian to make her first icon.

My other long-term project is called Sofia, so it’s an appropriate name :dragon:

The site is not completed, but the project is active:

Interesting topic.

Let’s look at these two depictions of a woman, without the texts, or Maidsafe logo, in order to see what kind of women they depict.

I just write some of my impressions, based on what really is visible in the image:

This woman is showing me her bicep, which is clearly very weak, or else she is not even trying to make it bulge. Her eylashes are super long, breasts quite large and waist very thin compared to breasts or head. There is a degree of flirt in her eyes, and she smiles at me. She looks at me slightly from under her brows, and my position is either on the same level with her or slightly higher (the perspective is a bit unclear). Overall she seems to have made herself pretty: the dress, the hairpiece, maybe heading for coctail event.

In my opinion she does not seem to be serious about her strength. Her general attitude is flirting.

This woman looks down on me, my eye is at about her elbow level. She is not smiling, rather frowning a bit. She looks a bit angry or maybe just strong-minded. Her breasts are not very visible, it is very difficult to say what size they are. I wouldn’t even think about it, if not comparing to the previous picture. She is dressed for the work, not for the coctail event as the previous one was. She is not flirting with me and she is not showing her muscle. Again, difficult to say if there is a true bicep there or not. That is not the point at all. She is rolling her sleeve as a gesture, showing her attitude. She seems to be about to start to take on quite a task. There is some kind of a logo on the collar with a picture of a woman and a text I can’t quite read, maybe “Westinghouse electrics”? I guess she is working there, so this image is most likely from her workplace. Of course the bluecollar shirt suggests that too. Both of these signs are on the other hand in a slight contrast to her red white dotted scarf, that gives a kind of homely impression.

I’ll leave it at this. Just wanted to give these images a bit more focus.

I like the way your imagination speak, friend! Man really is a patterns looking machine…

One would really think that I had a plan other than a fun picture different from the standard for crypto projects :dragon:

I don’t doubt your sincerity, not at all. And I also really do not want put you down. It is just very easy to overlook what is actually in the image and what is not there.

One more play:

Who ‘we’ and what ‘it’ in the images below? What kind of readings are possible with these two versions? Really, just playing here… not saying that either one would be without any problems.

Be careful, the SAFE platypus is jealous! It’s all game and fun until she opens her beak!

:safelove:

Could maybe even say they were made for you.

She has oversized arms and hands too. The Sophia image is a feminine/mother archetype, somewhat like a marvel comics character. Individuals will react to it based on the degree of their own unconscious pathologies, or inner feelings of inadequacy.

Rosie was used as war advertising to directly enlist women in the fight against the Nazis/Socialists during a time of total war. The intent was to encourage women to perform what had traditionally been male operated manufacturing jobs to ensure the death of enemy soldiers. It has elements of a Medusa archetype. Consider the coiled snake in the curls of her hair, and the thousand yard stare.

So if SAFE were to have a female icon, which archetypes do you prefer?

But surely you understand that everything is only in your brain? These pixels are not a real dragon, and they sure are not a slut dragon :dragon:

The reason these pixels exist is because I believe they help SAFE. I hope more beauty will make the forum an even more pleasant place for conversations, in which when a outsider looks will see a place he want to join… :power:

I was just waiting for someone to post something like this. This is precisely why crypto in particular and the tech community in general have such a bad reputation for general misogyny and sexism. While I understand that the notion of a censorship-free world attracts people who often have little regard for their fellow human, I’d like to believe that people will rise above and manifest empathy. >>cue complaints about hypersensitivity, encroachment on personal liberty, the woes of PC-ness, etc…<<

As far as I can tell, two women have provided perspective on this imagery, why it’s problematic, and how it can be fixed. That perspective has largely been drowned out and muted with off-beat attempts at humor or numb disregard. It’s not that difficult to avoid the negative impressions the imagery generates. A quick google search shows free imagery that would address the concerns both women and men have raised about the sexualized image currently in use. https://dlpng.com/png/6802440

Also, can we please expand our thinking beyond Stone Age cliches? Perhaps the first SAFE virtual assistant should be AI like Jarvis or a butler like Alfred.

Well put @Sotros25. I wasn’t happy with the post but wasn’t sure how to respond. I hope you will be listened to.

So long as it’s not a fecking paperclip! :paperclip:

At some point it will be worth considering that we should not expect to find consensus on minor differences of opinion… because difference interests and groups will need and want representation in different ways.

So, potentially this topic goes way beyond just the OP. The tools available need to suit the users and variety of interests and focus. As more users come on board them splinter groups could consider what is interesting to the minority.

Also, this is not about gender, it’s potentially about tech savvy levels too… as we noted yesterday a simple presentation of what is possible is more relatable. Community needs to appeal to alsorts in alsorts of different ways.

Always worth challenging the defaults and ruts we get into…
