I read here that one will be able to act as a farmer and run a vault later this year. I run Debian-related distros - for instance, Trisquel and Ubuntu. When this launches, are those GNU/Linux distros supported?

Yes. The final list of distros is down to MaidSafe but Debian will I think be included via MaidSafe repos. I’m fairly confident of this because I’ve built the code on Debian Q4 2014 and it works.

As far as I’m concerned, if it doesn’t work on Linux then it doesn’t work.
I’ve built from source on Ubuntu 12.04 back in November/December 2014.
Why not help them make a version for Linux?
I’m sure they could use a hand here and there.
I would love to be able to contribute as a core MaidSafe developer… I’m, unfortunately, just not at that point yet.
And, as I understand it, the plan is to release with a Docker container which should eliminate issues between distros and environments.

Hey guys, I already answered Linux (including Debian) are supported.
