Thank you!
I’m impartial of Maidsafe doing anything DAO-wise but I most definitely want to see DAO tools asap as I want to create one for artist ownership of JAMStand.
Thanks Loz, I’ll check it!
I reeeeally want the DAO to be native to Autonomi network for several reasons.
Been just loosely drafting mission statement, outline, etc etc
First impression, fresh and thoughtful takes. I love co-ops. I’ll keep reading.
One of the biggest issues I foresee is the atomic operation. When its done on a single computer system (or server farm) the atomic operation is easily done. But on a distributed network (Autonomi) where you cannot trust the nodes, only the data, then atomic operations are not so easy between two untrusted entities.
If you included some trusted entity (eg centralised exchange operator) as the go between then its returns to the single authority situation we currently have.
I am sure there is a solution, and will most likely involve the autonomi token OR duplication of the token system just for atomic operations. My bet lies with the token as a duplication of the token system needs data storage to be paid for. A bit like OMNI protocol and BTC
Some things seem interesting and others seem hand wavey with a lot of idealistic buzz words but the manifesto etc 404 and I don’t see anything concrete that is convincing to me in particular. Besides the general idea.
Edit: 404 gone and now working
Is this under active development or are you active with or just saying you plan on building things with these principles and ideals?
Do you happen to remember there were plans or schematics early on that Maidsafe had for all sorts of stuff, mail that was spam resistant, secure global voting? Just randomly remembered the voting system and given we have the original network design I wondered if that was something that’d resurface.
I see what you’re saying though. Piggy backing on the transaction layer seems like the easiest thing but I would assume outside of the native currency you would or should have to pay tax fee or something.
Besides that, maybe I’m missing something obvious but what would be dependent on atomic operations for a DAO? I just assume you mean voting.
If we wanted to exchange A for B, then for security between two unknown entities and be trustless then ideally you want an operation that cannot be reversed nor interrupted. Atomic operations are where two things are done that cannot be uninterrupted.
So atomic swap boils down to item A is set in place and item B is set in place then the ownership of both is swapped in a way that cannot be interrupted or reversed by item B being removed once Item A has ownership changed but before ownership B can be changed.
That is easy if both item A & B are on the one exchange since the exchange software can do it and reverse the operation if somehow something went wrong. Escrow has a similar safeguards, but for a autonomous system a human escrow requires a 3rd party that can be trusted.
I am not sure how using the token will solve this since it too is no longer doing atomic operations. You send then the receiver receives the token. A two step process. If we used an ERC20 style of thing then it should be possible but then you require people to use Autonomi’s version of ERC20 for their items.
That is easy via a mail App.
Since it costs to send mail then it has a degree of spam resistance built in.
Currently on the internet we look at a spammer spamming the cure for everything to 100’s of millions of email accounts then it takes them little effort and cost.
But on Autonomi the spammer is now paying for each chunk being written, then its a minimum of 100 million chunk stores for the 100 million mail accounts. Maybe more stores per mail sent for the “personalised” contents, the adding it to the receiver’s queue and maybe something else. More if the spammer wants nice images to try and sell. Even generic same contents is still at least 1 or 2 stores.
The spammer quickly goes broke if they try to do it too often.
Thus spam is reduced as it becomes more ineffective.
Secondly the filtering of mail can be done by sender signature/mail account. You cannot spoof a mail account since its secured by public/private key pairs. And that means you can be sure of the sending account which allows your App to filter mail into known senders and unknowns and if subscribed to spam lists discovered spam accounts.
Without paying then I do not see a way. If you want similar voting like the current internet then thats easy.
There is no way to secure unique human let alone the right humans. Unless you go back to the current techniques of registrations of some sort.
I have an impression, that they are cooking something behind the scenes, didn’t get into details. It seems it will be blockchain-based. And my stuff is only an idea, a plan. Actually, I think it should be created already by a co-op, to leverage the dogfooding principle. Hence I’m not focusing on it right now, until we have a steady basis with Autonomi. Just some stuff in spare time, with the goal in mind.
Wow, I’m very much curious. I hope you’ll tell something more at some point ![]()
The DisCOs idea is not to try excluding humans from the system. And the distributed technology is meant only as an enforcement for human actions, not a complete replacement for trust. At least that’s what I understood from that.
