I’ve seen these fall to under 10s too, depending on overall network performance. It does seem a bit variable.
Regardless, it does illustrate why caching is effective, especially when the same pointers and archives are resolved over and over again on a web app.
AntTP has a few caching strategies, which combine to optimise the experience.
First, the browser will attempt to cache chunks forever, if they are not resolved from a mutable link.
Second, the browser will attempt to use etags, which is like a hash comparison, to avoid downloading again.
Both of the above will be ignored with a full ctrl-shift F5, which will then lead too…
Third, if resolving from a mutable, AntTP will attempt to use previously known value, then refresh the cache with latest in the background (if older than 5 seconds, which is customizable). The background result is returned on the next request.
Forth, AntTP will check cache for immutable chunk.
If all the above have cache misses, then AntTP will go to the network and retrieve the data.
By default, AntTP will dedicate 1 GB of disk storage as cache and 32 slots in memory. Both can be customised. The disk cache can be cranked way up or down, depending on requirements. I set mine to 10 GB locally, as chunks don’t go stale, so it performs well.
