I catch your drift there, but I would sub ‘think of’ with ‘worry about’, because if I only thought of the things I can do something about, thinking would lose a lot of its abstract charm.
I guess I am too emotional. I just want my kids to grow up with safer technologies.
Thanks @pierrechevalier83, for your effort. You’ve threaded the needle well. I don’t think I know any more about the situation than I did before reading your post, but I feel a lot better about it because of what you say.
Sometimes we are a genius on some matters but not so much on others! Sometimes our vision is clouded and we need others to move foward because we cannot see all the angles…whatever the disagreement is, at such an exciting time, there should be a bit of soulsearching involved! Maidsafe is too big a project for personal matters/views to interfere! At least, from what I understood so far, it has too do with personal views not technical… good luck, everyone involved! . sorry if I am being nosey…
Not usually one for coincidences but as I’ve mentioned in this forum before I learned about maidsafe whilst reading a book on a Mexican holiday. One of the other things I always remember from this holiday was this song was always on as me and my girlfriend traveled on the resort bus. Must be a sign
I will assume that this has to do with the hard (and for engineers perhaps boring) reality of transforming the company into an organization that executes to get results on time, and that can deal with the formidable competition there will be going forward. Libra is just the beginning.
Personally it is sad to see people go, but I feel that start-ups and ideology are great for young people and for old people, not for people with a family with kids for example. Leaving does not imply not supporting a goal or ideal.
While all this looks bad from the outside, it may be a good thing for both the people who are leaving and for SAFE Network.
As a more than casual outside observer, I have been interested in MaidSafe and the SafeNetwork progress for a few years. Having been thru a few startup cycles and team changes myself with some pretty big impact, early and late stage startups over my past 30 years in tech, I can say with much certainty, only one thing is certain as a team moves forward, change. IMO, for what’s it worth, the team which successfully adapts and rallies behind a change in direction, slight or significant, comes down to how that change aligns with their own vision for the project and the expected result. So a little bit of introspection is a normal personal team member event, my advice is don’t dwell on the change too much and that everyone on this team, for what it’s worth, needs to “Cut to the chase”, ie- you are either for or against the change (it lines up or doesn’t line with your understanding of the vision and expected result), dwelling on the change “inflection point” in front of the team, or the past events that got you to the change inflection point, does not help. Momentum is everything, and it’s the individual and collective positive attitudes and focused energies by all the team members which will propel you all towards your collective goal, sooner, rather than later. You all collectively have a great Vision here and I think now can see clearly what the expected result(s) should be from your continued efforts, so keep going! All the best to the outgoing members and newly promoted members of the SAFE team, and I am sure any gaps will fill quickly.
Thank you so much. That was a long time, especially for Nick. Wish you both the best!
Oh no!
I’m late to this news (I usually only check the forums once a week), but I wanted to at least chime in with my appreciation for the departing team members.
I thought of @pierrechevalier83 as my favorite MaidSafe dev, since we seem to share many opinions about technology and software development, so I’m especially sad to see him go.
It’s also hard to see @nicklambert go, since he’s been a steady presence in this project for so long.
MaidSafe has required an immense amount of innovation, and innovation requires creative people. Creative people have so many ideas on both what should be done and how it should be done, that it’s amazing that they ever agree on anything. Diversity of thought is a wonderful strength and liability.
Although I don’t really know @dirvine, I get the sense that he’s a very stubborn man, and that also can be very good and very bad. MaidSafe certainly wouldn’t have gotten this far if not for this trait, so I guess overall it’s a good thing.
These departures are certainly a blow to MaidSafe, but still have faith that the network will eventually launch, and that it will change the world.
Maidsafe is under no obligation to disclose so lets not make it uncomfortable for David or Maidsafe. They have been extremely forthcoming. Disagreements happen all the time and senior folks leave. Lets look at Coinbase? Not trying to say they are a similar company - just alluding to the fact that disagreements occur and sometimes visions/road maps are different and several senior folks leave.
I too am extremely disappointed that Nick and Pierre are leaving as they are extremely gifted individuals. Hope they keep on contributing from the outside. But Maidsafe is a bigger company now so as long as the company is working towards the product/release, these kind of events should not distract from the focus.
…just my 2 cents.
second that 100%!! fully agree.
as always, thanks to those who’ve made a contribution … again the vision and leadership at the top is clear and great to see … good promotions there. Seems like robust change and then well positioned for the next steps. Never seen a company so sure footed and so well led - really appreciate the difference and the transparency
Thank you for expanding further on your personal reasons. You have nothing to regret here or feel bad about any of your decisions as I am sure they were carefully considered. These situations occur more often than anyone might realise and it takes an honest man to come to grips with their motivations and desires they have for their working career.
There is no right or wrong in these situations and a dishonest man will often see them as a one verses the other situation rather than a difference of styles that are not so easily reconciled into a single style. You had a choice to adopt another style or keep the one you had. You made your choice and for us looking in from outside there really was no right or wrong decision as it was yours and yours alone to make, change or move on, both would have been valid decisions. From what I read there was no problems causing this other than the change of styles (+ associated things) required by the change in direction of the company.
Again all the best in your future adventures in the working realm and by what I’ve seen of your talent it will be exciting for much of it. Hope you keep touch with the community as many others here obviously think very highly of you as well.
Hope to meet you (again) one day and catch up on your adventures.
Sad to see talented stallions depart the MaidSafe core. Best wishes to all.
@nicklambert and @pierrechevalier83, Thanks for all your hardwork and good luck with your new ventures on the SAFE Network.
***No idea what they are doing, but i’ll be positive and believe they are leaving Maidsafe to start companies to build apps for the SAFE Network.
Maybe they will build a company that is going to clone maidsafe’s source code and take a different direction in order to launch another safe Network with some differences.
Nope. Staying positive!
Hardly. That would mean founding competing team, that would likely need to try to recruit folks from MaidSafe, which could be quite bad for the speed of development. Based on what these folks have said, they all wish SAFENetwork to get up and running ASAP.
Interesting. I think I know much more after what @pierrechevalier83 said. Spesifically:
Ok, I don’t know the details, but just feeling unsuitable for the position is very well expressed in that paraphrase. Very easy to understand the kind of inner conflict that remaining there would have lead into.
In general Pierre’s reply didn’t leave me with a feeling of beating around the bushes at all.
