So we still do not have a source for actual figures. He is likely presenting for a book written or about to be written.
While I and @mav used the figures he presented we cannot vouch for them or assume they are correct.
I must say saying there are 5,000,000,000 hours viewed a day and the exact same number of searches done by google is a little strange indeed.
To put it into context for the 2 billion internet users (not necessarily daily) means that every man woman and child using the internet is watching 2.5 hours of you tube each and every day. @SmoothOperatorGR would you consider this reasonable? I don’t
300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute!
Almost 5 billion videos are watched on Youtube every single day.
YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day
Here we see 5 billion videos watched and many are 5-15 minutes in length. Significantly lower than the 5 billion hours viewed per day
30 million visitors per day watch 5,000 million videos per day
That is 170 videos per person average per day.
Even at 5 minutes per video average means that the average user would watch 850 minutes or 14 hours of videos per day. That is for each and every of those 30 million visitors per day they claim
From this we see that youtube themselves are giving out doggy figures over inflating their real statistics.
Sources given on the site are from youtube themselves.
He does not give the sources and thus was not a reliable source. So you only assumed that
The web site I referenced is more reliable and gives their sources and shows the figures are definitely over inflated.
But my review of your analysis used the original inflated figures and showed that it is not a problem and QED (Quite Easily Done) - yes I know qed does not mean that
It doesnt matter how precise YT statistics we can get. You can also ask Pornhub, it is the same kind of service (almost ). Main thing is Safenetwork is not CDN, it has other features and many different use cases with completely different data usage patterns.
As was mentioned typical down/up ratio on ISP lines is 10:1. In company where I work it is 9:1 (almost 10k customers, mostly homes, about 30 % on fiber, 70 % different kinds of wireless).
Neither of this we can direcly use. This is todays internet, not the Safenetwork. Existence of cheap and easy to use lifetime datastorage will change many things. Lot of home users still have their data collections at home and they will start uploading them. You know, the good old hoarding instinct and desire to leave something ethernal behind you.
Even more data may flow from corporate word. People in corporations and varius automated systems produce huge amount of data every day. If they will have option to store the data indefinitely for the price of storing it for few years today, they will.
My point is, the GET/PUT ratio may be 100:1 for YT like services, but it can also be “PUT and forget” for large portion of data.
The example of youtube was a useful exercise even though @peca is correct in that SAFE will not be duplicating the current internet but providing a new way to do things better.
Although I would have expected the original poster to comment on the analysis done by @mav and myself and either pointed out where we were wrong in something or further the analysis.
