SAFE Network Dev Update - December 12, 2019

What Maidsafe will call Fleming upon release I would assume.

Is not it basically maxwell though, I forget the exact differences.

Maxwell will be Fleming + upgrades and possibly + async/await. Of course with many efficiencies where we can make them, but hopefully none that delay releases. We want to get into a rolling release of production code asap.

TLDR; Fleming is now the first version of the fully functional SAFE Network.

Community poll suggests this is around three months away. Factoring in optimism and of course unforeseen snags, it might not play out as expected, but there’s no reason to think it is way out either.

Not all gloom and doom even here in UK then :slightly_smiling_face:

Using a sophisticated AI applied to the available data along with dubious post processing algorithms, I think it comes out at 4 months  Give me a random number between zero and infinity and we’ll see who is closer :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, you are right that using infinity condemns you to fail  even though it is implicit in the poll. I think the problem was your ‘random number’ proposition lacking any bounds - you shot yourself in the foot there. Not me gov!

6 months or more is winning though

Maybe because of the late arrival of sock puppets. Shall we repeat with a non anonymised poll and see how that looks? Regardless, it’s a poll and I was playing the game, not trying to make a serious point.

I did anonymous so that perhaps devs would be more likely to participate without giving official thoughts.
Ooooooh well.

Perhaps it was a bad Christmas gift… the spirit is rapidly waining.

I went for 6 month plus, I have very high Hope’s it will be done before.
I didn’t want to get the Hope’s up of those less patient than myself.
You know who you are.

This much is true

Asking MAID about release dates doesn’t make it any more right than a random number generator if we look at past examples    . But best to not make assumptions and we get there when we get there. I think 2020 is a good year to see things happen and would be quite worried if we can’t get anything by the end of 2020 with a small team that hopefully is on the same page and has the same MVE vision. All we can do is dance around each of our personal MaidSafe shrines we keep in our closet and offer the sacrifice of an old external hard drive to the centerpiece of it from time to time.

I’m not arguing with you - not in the slightest. It doesn’t matter what we think, it will happen when it happens and not a nano-second before. But maybe a good bit later if we keep pestering the devs for answers they themselves cannot give and thereby distract them.
We can guess amongst ourselves, many of us will use divination by chicken entrails and the reading of tea-leaves (aka keeping a close eye on Github), some will try and second-guess whatever David says in here.
But nothing will change the fundamental fact that it will be ready only when the team decide enough of the features are ready to be called a release.

Oh maybe a little better, with xmas coming up

This is one major reason I refused to set the poll up, because it was not asked for benefit of the community or the project, but to allow discouragement, which a later post of his showed when he quickly stated more saying 6+ months was winning for a moment.

I dont know how anyone can be discouraged. You can almost touch it and smell it. A 3,6,9 or 12 month blowout is nothing compared to what should be delivered.
My personal challenge is to understand one, just one, update

Yea well StarsM works on a bit by bit discouragement. Could be a self defeatist attitude and cannot believe anything will work.

Release the flaming turkey! It’s Christmas soon. Alot of people I know is already on holiday mood and the team is working hard here. Thanks for hard work.

I never used to understand the updates.
I kept at it, understanding one new phrase / term at a time.
Sometimes things are still over my head and I don’t quite grasp them, but it does get easier and easier the more time you put into reading them.

Theres no point in woulda, coulda, shoulda.
I learnt that along time in crypto, if I had not I would be so disheartened by having sold early and missed potential profits.
It is what it is. And it is what it is for good reason.

memento72 if your going to edit posts to make it look like you were not being as rude as you were, and delete posts it makes it pointless conversing with you.
