SAFE needs fo support Smart Contracts

After all these years and all the brain power poured into distributed turing-complete systems, they are still not scalable nor cost effective. Maybe they will overcome these problems at some point, maybe soon … but with Simplicity, you can still have all the conditionals you want and hence strong contracts - less prone to error, etc … It looks to me like a network running Simplicity or similar non-turing-complete language could take the bulk of the smart-contract space no matter what, as cost, speed, safety, and security are going to be better … that means the turing-complete EVM space becomes much more niche eventually, one way or another.

I think you’d be able to use a Simplicity program on the EVM if there was a compiler for it.

“WASM on the blockchain” is something that the new Freenet has implemented as far as I know. When I’m in Scotland next time I must get you guys and Ian Clarke’s team together!

At the risk of sounding cynical:

Now that we’re a couple of years down the road, have smart contracts actually solved any real world problem ? It has spawned a couple of decentralized poker games and lots of defi that enables to crosschain trade of other defi tokens.

We were promised Jetpacks!!!
Err Self driving taxis that were owned and operated by their DAO, that could pay for their energy topup with the DAO “card” and when worn out would drive themselves to the scrappy err err recyling centre - and a whole lot of other similar stuff.

Or so I would tell any audience in Scotland and a few down south that would have me from 2016-2018.

DAOs were the future and Scotcoin was the vehicle on which to build and I was out speaking 2-3 times a week at least putting myself in front of as many geeks and fintech folks as I could find.

Once again I was either 5-10 years too early or just plain wrong. I was certainly wrong with Scotcoin. DAOs will eventually come on the blockchain once the problem of unpredictable Tx fees is dealt with, but Autonomi has the opperchancity to leapfrog here and gain market dominance

@Bux @JimCollinson

Any marketing advantage in referring to DAOs as Digital Autonomi Contracts?

Edit: They prob thought of this and it was one of yet-unnanounced drivers for adopting Autonomi as the new name :ant:

you might want to checkout Celestia, the SWAY SC programming language is really fast, came out of Uni. of Toronto , the FuelVM (EVM) is the key there, its a modular open source project which claims the FUELVM can run on anything… https://www.publish0x.com/breaking-the-small-wind-mold-darwind5-circa-2012/fuel-vm-and-celestia-flattening-l2-to-l1-onchain-with-sway-s-xzqndey
