SAFE-FS v3 Release

Pricing and ETH fees are dynamic but you might be able to reduce the number of quote requests needed based on how often it changes.

I won’t argue with those wanting to put servers up, honest . I see s lot of issues with it, but for me it is not worth spending time arguing about it.

So I focus on what is worth my time: ease of adoption of a secure system, and Dweb is directed at that. So even though Dweb requires a download, that’s now very simple. And once done folk have access to all dweb apps, and only need one wallet interface, and don’t need to trust any other app except Dweb. So the more such apps the better.

It’s a bit like the old approach of a Safe Browser - a single gateway app for desktop and mobile that gives all the benefits of Autonomi.

There is an unintended side effect of server based options in that many will choose them over a download. That’s the great benefit of the old web - the browser is preinstalled and gives access to everything that’s on the old web. Maybe one day Dweb will be preinstalled, but to get there needs a lot of folk to get behind it and want that to happen. So far we have a handful, but nobody with much time!

I personally don’t see logic in server based approaches and have been surprised that some who understand the issues want to go that way. For me it feels like the switch away from native token to Blockchain in another form - making it harder to get where we really want to be. But :man_shrugging:

Hey @whiteout2! Good to see you back. I was sceptical whether it actually was you, but if it is, hello again!

If you’ve been bouncing around the community for the last while, you have probably seen AntTP mentioned too. If your front end is running on the clear web and you are using a HTTP back end, it may help you to arrive at your destination.

It will depend how much additional logic you have between the UI and your Autonomi CLI/RPC calls, but it may be straightforward.

BTW, is Safe-FS open or closed source?

So does your backend server have access to everything uploaded through safe-fs?

Anybody else having difficulty getting Netmask on the mobile to scan the QR code for upload payment?

Note: this seems more a MM issue than anything with SAFE-FS.
Be good if SAFE -FS could check for EVM_NETWORK and SECRET_KEY env vars before fannying about with mobile MM

Thanks for sharing AnTTP, I’ll dig into the GitHub to see how it all works.

And for the mobile QR code issues, you can copy paste the address or scan it with a regular camera app, then copy the address from there. I haven’t set up web3 integrations with MetaMask or anything yet but that’s definitely on the long to do list

And although it’s kinda against the ethos here, for many years I’ve kinda maintained that SAFE-FS isn’t open source, to protect the backers against someone copying it in 2 seconds and making their SFSC (SAFE-FS Coin) for worthless. Always trying to maintain its value and expand SFSC in any ways possible, partnering with other apps or just by making SAFE-FS as multifunctional and widespread as possible

Thanks for doing this!

Downloads works great for me

No, this is also dynamic. As the network fills so will the ANT price increase for a store.

Maybe, to be creative then, we can just assume the ballpark and let people know based on their 1kb file or 1mb file or 500kb etc, the general range, which will still be usually under 1¢ or so, and give that. Then if they want to wait the 15-30 seconds to get the exact exact amount, they can.

Or they can just accept the range more or less and move on.

That is, unless you need to know the actual amount before uploading? I’ll check how things work again

Nice to see you back and at it!

I have some safe-fs coins sat in my omniwallett from many years ago when I sent you some BTC. Are they worthless? I can’t find anything regarding them in your recent posts.

If you have I’m sorry, and if so can you please point me in the right direction?

Thanks and good luck.

I’ll make another post soon for SFSC and how to migrate from Omni to our latest EVM version, so definitely not worthless. It’s our main (& only) utility token for the app, to boost content and do special things. The new Whitepaper v3 talks a bit about it too. Working on a simple page where people can submit a migration request and sign a message in their Omniwallet if they’re still holding v1, or ERC20 wallet if they migrated to v2.

And it’s on already up for trading on Arbitrum, Optimism and Polygon now via Uniswap, at the same price as launch, with more chains coming soon (that link has the full list)

Really great to see this work.

Improving access to the network is critical. Without a good user experience, the network won’t get going, so if that requires servers for a time / some applications, so be it.

I’m giving it a go, but I get ‘Could not load files from server: API HTTP error! status: 502’ as soon as I load it, and nothing works. Do you know what this could be? I tried on 3 browsers on Windows (Brave, Chrome, and Edge), and 2 on Mac (Brave, Safari) with no luck.

Do you know what might cause this error?

Looking forward to trying it out when I can, and also looking forward to the Android / iOS version in the future. Again, great to have you back interacting, and the more apps and experiences that leverage Autonomi, the better for this fledgeling ecosystem.

Make sure you are using the permanent URL SAFE-FS App v3

We used to have a temporary one, which won’t work well anymore

Uh oh just checked, you’re right I’ll get that fixed tonight. I think I know what it is, sorry about that

And you mentioned the mobile app, it’s only for Android right now (the Dart codebase compiles to iOS but I don’t have a Mac at the moment) and missing some.of the features of the web app but I could go ahead and release it soon if you’d like to try it anyway, knowing that

Whenever you’re ready. I expect mobile apps will be critical in boosting adoption and make it easier for people to show Autonomi to friends & family, so help with organic marketing. Happy to test when it’s ready for it

Awesome! Glad it worked. I did test everything heavily before making this launch post so any error people tell me definitely surprises me. Should all be working well though now

Hopefully people start posting on the Secrets wall or sending chat messages to each other! If anyone posts their SAFE-FS wallet address in here you can add each other and chat. Maybe I’ll make a public contacts book so you can find each other in the chat part of the app itself too

Your wallet address is basically your username. But I’ll add the ability to set your own nickname too

You might look at Scratchchat and Atlas to see what can be done without a central server. We already have quite a lot of that functionality working.

The messages, conversation and contacts are all on Autonomi. The server just handles processing so people don’t need to download anything locally to do things.

My version is just an update / merge of my SecretChat app from 2017
