Orwellian Bill Reintroduced

More or less, I agree…

I believe in freedom, thus I believe in free markets. Governments prefer regulation, because they are regulators and that is what regulators do…

I am all for decentralization of power… But I do see government as being the central power that needs decentralized…

Ok, ok, you see government and centralisation as one. That’s the difference. I see decentralised governance as an alternative form of government which provides a useful function that a free market does not embody.

However, I think that in true a free market, which I think would have to be built on decentralised, transparent principles, then the same civic / community joint enterprise would arise and be beneficial.

It really doesn’t matter whether it looks anything like government or not, or if it fits the definition of governance or not. Its the aim that matters, and it seems we agree that such civic or community joint enterprise is useful and would be less prone to the problems we see with systems that allow centralisation of power (in commerce or government).

I have not read the whole disucssion, nor will I :-).

Have we asked the question already what the direct impact of such a bill would be on project SAFE (and MaidSafe)? Isn’t that the ‘more interesting’ question? I do want to caution there is no gain from running ahead of the facts or doom-and-gloom, but it is equally a relevant consideration.

We won’t know until the bill is published. For now all we have to go on is the earlier “snoopers charter” (Communications Data Bill), so no point speculating what might be different in the new bill.

The SNP plan to vote against the bill, SNP planning to kill off Snoopers’ Charter …with Libertarian consevatives and others. Also, any move to impose some anti-British, digital police state on Scotland, might be seen (is seen by people i have talked with) as a “material change” in our relationship with the UK, and could trigger demands for another referendum on independence.

It would be an outrage to have one of our most promising companies (ever) pressured
by a government that has close to zero support in Scotland. Personally, i think the bill will fail, and i’m really looking forward to “GAME ON” with Project SAFE and the SAFE network, when it’s ready.

Go Maidsafe!!! :innocent:
