Observation concerning quote requests and wondering about something

I have been looking through the logs generated for nodes.

Specifically concerning the GetStoreQuote message in the logs when a node machine out there running a client of some sort asks the node for a quote. I was looking because a quote requests causes some metrics fields to be populated.

There is one machine, a DO machine, that is generating 90% or more of all quote requests that my 1000 nodes get. It will not be a emissions machine since if it was I would be getting a thousand or more emission units (~0.56 * 1000 = 56 tokens LOL)

Wondering if this some sort of network metrics being gathered by someone? Or is it ???

To clarify, you really mean a node asking a quote, not a client?

fixed in post. Thanks for pointing that out

So it’s a Client? I’m still running a script that gets a quote from the network every 5 minutes (well, a bit more than that because it waits 5 minutes after getting the quote. But I take it you are talking about something a lot more frequent than that?

It’s running in AWS though. Not Digital Ocean. IP address ends in .245 if you want to check.

I’m not sure why I’m still bothering considering the actual quotes paid are available for all to see on Arbitrum.

Just ran the script again over last 2 days of logs for one 250 node machine and got

  • 403 total quote requests
  • 346 from that DO machine, so 85% now with 2 days of data
  • none from that .245 address
