You are clearly the most likeable character around here.
You seem to forget about the effort it takes creating versus copying. If the time comes when this network is THE place, then of course we can trust it’s the original author who posted it first, because it was never available anywhere…
But there is no time stamp on the network so how would we know who posted first? Or am I missing something?
It’s still not too late to turn this into a PtP discussion folks!
Then how did you search for it in the first place? Not including the artist name is counterproductive.
Sure they will. They do it all the time. You rip a cd or a movie and you title it properly. You don’t label “Bambi” as “Transformers” that would just hurt your reputation and get you less downloads not to mention it would be confusing in your own records.
When you go on thepiratebay you search for the artist, or the software name. Conversely if you were going to upload a torrent you’d label it by what it was or who it was by so people could identify it. Piracy offers free marketing for products and producers man.
Who cares who posted it first. If an artist comes out with new pictures, songs, movies, whatever on a regular basis it proves they are the producer. It’s the same as if you had a copycat artist that PRETENDED to be the artist. The copycat would take credit for the artists work but have none of the artist’s skill so when asked to do a demonstration would fail to produce. He who creates owns because he who creates can create more. It has nothing to do with time but has to do with the ability to create vs the inability of others to create.
Exactly, and to repeat what I just said above
But I’m constantly running into music or art on the internet that I have no idea who produced it until I go back and do research if I like it enough. People post play lists all the time without giving credit to all the artists on their list.
I agree with this statement but what about when you have a moment of inspiration but then other creations are not so wonderful? One hit wonders for example?
People don’t always know all the artists in their music albums. When you rip a cd for instance, the names don’t come with. You have to manually enter those. Sometimes people don’t go to the trouble of doing that. Or if you get the music from a friend’s burnned cd and don’t have that information in the first place you’re left with “dun da da dun” no album and artist information. Or you might have playlists that were assembled to emphasize mood or something and thought wasn’t given to list the artists. or maybe it was assumed you knew the track information or could get it, say for instance in the case of a movie album playlist.
As for art pfft. That’s constantly being ripped and reripped and there’s a reason people don’t attribute artists on the pictures themselves. Because that’s messy and makes it hard to make derivitive works from the art. Have you ever tried to make a montogue or banner when there’s an annoying little name or something in the corner of the pic? It ruins the whole pic. Those usually don’t get shared as much. Text attributations in comments and what not can get lost easily. So, no credit. Not because people don’t care but because art is in high demand and is collected and ripped so much.
A one hit wonder would score higher in downloads but it’s only one file. Lower quality content would score lower in downloads but there’s more of it. It kind of balances out.
Maybe someone will make a .safenet site committed to providing links to only original uploader content where devs and producers register before they upload.(or some other solution) Eventually the site(s) would establish reputation and it would become the go to place(s) for original puts and gets. And, yes, the site owners would filter out objectionable content - it would make business sense. Something like Cnet. If it’s all free to the downloader because of PtP-PtD why would I go to something like warez or piratebay. If things evolve like this it will marginalize cp, snuff, pirating etc. just like on the clearnet today. Same with search engines ie. google vs grams
That would be a nice way to approach the issue of original authorship. Such site could be owned by some association of artists/authors or something like that.
Do you agree there is no moral issue with PtP that the platform (SAFE Network) needs to address?
Personally I agree that there is no moral issue here. The conversation, however, has been worthwhile and necessary imo.
