MaidSafe Dev Update - June 8, 2017

Sorry I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to that yet.

This can give a better understanding of vaults, I can’t really explain it:

Please keep in mind this might be different now, because the Maidsafe devs are really doing this alien tech at breakneck-speed.

Vaults route all the data chunks. Think of it like BitTorrent but without trackers and fully encrypted. the Vaults will make you Safecoin and allow you to Farm some coins that way.

The Client (in this case the SAFE browser) connects you to a group of Vaults. So the client is what you use to browse the SAFE network. The Vaults are what make the SAFE network.

Currently we have no testnet up, but we’ll see TEST 20 in the coming week(s). MaidSafe runs a group of Vaults for us to connect to as clients using the SAFE browser. That way we can test the system.

What people are doing now is running the SAFE browser at home which simulates a fake network. This is for developers to test their apps without a live/test network.

I don’t think that’s right,

The whole point of mock-routing is so that you can see your sites / apps on your own computer

So his site should be showing up.

In the mock routing you computer simulate be connected to a safe network but only can access the files that your store in your own computer. Of course nobody except you, or me in the example link above, can access the data.

An html page is effectivelly rendered by the browser if you just drag & drop it, but the browser doesn’t enable the DOM API unless the page is being loaded with a safe:// protocol, i.e. the page you dragged and drop is using the file:// protocol and therefore won’t be able to use the SAFE DOM API. You need to upload it with the web_hosting_manager app.

Thanks. That explains the error I get from app zero.
So now my question is, how do I upload the html file with the web_hosting_manager app?

And why hasn’t the test network been kept help up?
Surely someone must be interested in hosting content on the SAFE Network.

Look at the following post, apart from the details of how build the apps, it’s also explained how to upload a web page: How to build the SAFE Browser and upload a website with Mock-Vault - General - Safe Dev Forum

The post says the following:

_6. Authorise the app from the SAFE Browser, and follow the instructions in the SAFE Hosting Manager app to register a public id and publish a service.

I’ve done the authorisation part on the browser, but my SAFE Hosting Manager is still waiting for authorisation.
If the next step is to add the public id and services as said on the SHM, then I don’t know how.

By the way, why does the Web Hosting Manager README have two paragraphs explaining how to run the application, Run and Further commands?

What’s the difference between the two?

yes, I’m having that exact same issue on Ubuntu. hangs forever

Working for me in Windows 10, although I found I had to to restart the browser after adding a new service in order to see the site otherwise I got the err_not_implemented error.

Omg! Multiple public IDs! This will make things so much more interesting!

You know I was talking to a guy on Diaspora today who accused maidsafe of being “vaporware” and said to get back to him in a year. Well iirc, last year we had a barely functioning beta. Now we’ve got a new browser, an improved web manager, the ability to create multiple IDs, data chains on the way and way more API support. I’d say that’s a fair bit of improvement for “vaporware”. You know I work with essential oils. Sometimes you don’t feel the effects of a tincture or given therapy until after a month or two of usage. We’re so used to immediate responses that we forget some things take time to grow and develop. Would be nice if we could increase our efficacy rate.

For those sort of people, nothing less than a final release will change their closed minds. It is best to just move on the explaining it to people who are open to new input.

I’ve watched plants grow in my own garden. I’ve seen tiny Itty bitty seeds grow into huge plants and collectively thriving gardens. I’ve also had to wait for this kind of thing to happen, and sometimes crops fail or dont grow well. Sometimes you do things wrong and they die and you need to try again. And THEN there is adding time for processing raw herbs into tinctures or teas or learning how to cook and/or preserve the food you have just grown. Tech is no different. It takes time to grow, needs nurturing and care and when it finally does release it’s bounty needs to be processed by a community into a series of practical applications.
