MaidSafe Dev Update - 9th August 2016

Agreed, my comment wasn’t meant to be a moral judgement, just a bit of a nudge  and probably also easing my conscience because I haven’t contributed to any of the ‘real work’ nor the crowdsales.

Is safecoin still in the proof of concept stages or has their been an alpha implementation?

Would be very exciting to get into the tests that offer test SafeCoin

@nicklambert Do you know when you will be letting us know about the future funding that Maidsafe has secured? Does this have anything to do with your OMNI holdings, or is this from an interested third-party?

From the TechCrunch article:

“They’re planning to do an equity raise next month, via the bnktothefuture investor platform, with the aim of raising £2 million, including for ramping up hiring on the engineering and community outreach front. (A previous £6.7M crowdfunding raise did not end up bringing in anywhere near that amount as many donations were in Bitcoin and the value of the cryptocurrency subsequently slumped.)”

Also, I take it that it will be fairly straight forward to upload my site to The Safe Network once it’s up and running. (stable, non-beta) Would love to have it on the Clear Net and on The Safe Network as well.

Will it involve a lot of HTML type kung-fu, or will porting sites be straight-forward. It’s currently a self-hosted Wordpress site.

I’m so glad that the decision has been taken to go with Banktothefuture. Simon Dixon seems to me to be very well connected, well intentioned and very switched on. In terms of funding I think he can bring a lot to this initiative. In particular I think he’s right when he says we are nearing the end of the debt cycle. Negative interest rates have negative consequences and IMO are not sustainable. When it happens, is clearly the “million dollar question”, but at some point in the future savers/investors will begin to search for assets that are not financed by debt. Dixon recently did a tour of the biggest fund managers in the US. They seem universally sceptical of debt-based assets. His conclusion is that bearer assets like gold and cryptocurrencies if/when they become more liquid will be in high demand.

For those interested, the address is still open for donations. The current value is $ 3259,18  Here’s a link to the proposal page for the SAFEr Browser.

But what will be the novelty in this browser? something that i will dont have in brave or waterfox?

it won’t connect you to the normal un-encrypted internet. Right now someone can put some script in a safesite and your browser loads some google or facebook script. With this that won’t be possible. It also removes the need to do any proxy settings. So imagine a nice SAFE Browser logo on your desktop and when started you can browser safe: websites without being connected to the normal web.

Right now being the most important point. It would be very easy to add a toggle to normal browsers to disallow normal internet communication. Even better would be to allow one tab to only access safe OR internet, but i don’t know how easy that would be.

Also the proxy setup could be done by the extension/plugin.

Actually, I think the CSP headers in the current launcher proxy would block this. It might be good to test though; I don’t know if anyone’s tried loading clearnet scripts on their SAFEsites yet.
