MaidSafe Dev Update :safe: 17th May 2016 - TEST 3 - Update (20th May 13:30 BST) Now Complete

Tried again and now the registration process still fails but very quickly in contrast to some hours earlier. Wondering.

I think the largest pic is something like 350 odd kb give or take and most of them aren’t even over 50kb each. some are like from 100 - 200 kb more or less and the whole folder is like 2.18 Mb altogether. Yeah at a 5mb upload limit I think it would upload easy man. They’re tiny little quotepics man not epic renderings of the Parthanon or something.

I can’t login and can’t register anymore. Maybe a status update with times in the first post will be great so we know what is happening. EDIT

me neither, this was expected. The network drops messages below a certain priority and is focused on just keeping the routing connections up and running, even if the network sees extreme churn and loses all it’s data. In the next test they will provide both a stable network and all data/accounts maintained.

To me it looks like that some hours back when the instance of testnet 3 started, some early people were able to put some data onto the network and later guests are facing these problems you are describing (same here). I never could create an account. But as the starting post states, this is most likely a wanted state of the current testnet 3. They are testing different things. You can still help providing data and nodes by running vaults of your own.

Ah, i just readed the following in the startpost: ā€œThis means that from the Client side we expect to see lost accounts, lost files, etc, but we should always have a Vault network that will scale and continue to accept new connections.ā€

Mac OSX - Vault seems to be up, but no luck registering new a/c on Launcher… will try back later

After some tries I managed to get registered. My vault seems to work. I’m not sure what to look exactly. The logs say that it responds to requests and that it stores data.

I misunderstood that you were saying this was alpha 1.

I gather I should have read it as you saying testing to get to alpha 1

I believe you should start the vault in a console/terminal, then start the launcher (double clicking) and then the demo app (double clicking)

woow, somewhat easy to setup, works great on xubuntu 16. Although trying to get the proxy happening on it is a bit of work since it does not have easy gui like the normal Ubuntu 16 distro.

Tried to setup firefox to proxy to that url, doens’t seem to be loading any sites, although as stated that is to be expected.

The proxy worked before. Now it just makes my launcher to not respond to the demo app for some reason. Restart of the launcher fixes the problem but the proxy still does that.

I found that Firefox will use system proxy settings if they are set, and with the default automatic detection setting of Firefox.

So it should be possible on any Linux with a graphical user interface to open the network icon in the system tray and set the proxy there.

Thanks bluebird, while that is possible, Xubuntu doesnt’ have GUI for it. I found a work instructions around that edits some system files e.t.c and allow me to try and configure that - but I didn’t want to bother my system yet.

I just accidently killed it last week by trying to upgrade from Xubuntu 14 to 15, had to do a whole rebuilt on Xubuntu 16 and setup all my tooling again - killed lots of hours doing that.

So I tried direct configuration of firefox, not sure whether it worked - will wait for the next update.

profile registered successfully ! wow and so quick… ID, Page all done in seconds…

I think there is network manager applet for xfce4.

connected to safe network without a problem…

was able to login very easily last night, , can not login now at all?

has something changed?

my vault has a routing table of 50 and seems to be running nicely on vmware ubuntu box.

other than login issue all sweet!!

I connected for the first time about an hour ago - tried registering an account and it failed twice before succeeding on the third attempt. I’ve only tried viewing one website and that failed but I’ll try some more.

As David pointed out, the priority is to ensure the network stays up while they and the community throw lots of challenges at it, but this means that other functionality will unreliable: intermittent, fail, lose/corrupt data & accounts etc.

So all we can expect is to be able to connect! Anything else might work some of the time.
