I get what you’re saying, but the truth is it’s always going to be more difficult to be responsible for your own money/stuff than letting somebody else, like a bank, do it. No UI in the world is going to change that.

My sister just plain screwed up. She is not stupid and has a doctor’s degree in medicine. But like most people, she is just not used to the responsibility. And especially back in 2013 the sum was so small that it was more like game (to both of us).

Would somebody be willing to solve this thing for me in practice for say 10% commission? There is, of course, the question of trust. But you can PM me for details if you’re interested.

In your original thread

My sister thinks she might have used the wallet https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet but can’t get it to work.

but what I don’t understand is that we know it’s a U2FsdGVkX1 and then that app should work… = https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet and named [Bitcoin Wallet]

I’ve just downloaded for fun and in top right [Safety] is option to [Restore wallet] which looks to file manager to restore from a file. I’d give that a go first.

Beyond that I’m inclined to bow out, as I’m seeing suggestion that LibreSSL is unsafe on Linux … so unless you have a Mac to pursue above attempts in a similar way with LibreSSL, it’s a hard road to follow.

Thanks for the tip. I tried, but it didn’t work. It is quite possible my sister remembers the password wrong, has mixed up some keys or something else. Nobody here is panicking. It’s kind of a question of principle to me. It bothers me that a person can be that careless, even if the amount isn’t huge.

I don’t think my sister has ever used a Mac. I certainly have not.

If there was a solution for that, it would not be secure. :expressionless:
