Since almost everything SAFE will do can be talked about in terms of search or even reduced to it, it seems that this really is something for the open source or really free(dom) software community to take an interest in and work hard on getting right. If ever there was something to fully automate it aside from the coding its this. And the SAFE core team is already involved when its working on things like de-duplication.
I want collaborative filtering like reddit, decentralized moderating.
The was a poster here for a while who did a thread on factor tree up voting. It sounded amazing and like a possible way to get around embedding and shills that became statistically water tight. But that method required some way to using reasonably stable but possibly not perfect or still deniable ID or somewhat unique ID, which of course would have to be handled very carefully.
How about this Every time you do a search you pay the search engine a micropayment, a very small one but a micropayment nonetheless. People do hundreds of searches a day so it adds up. Take that revenue and then pay people for maintaining the search engine. In short have a DOA search engine just like we were talking about awhile ago having ownerless cars. Same concept: A search engine that earns it’s own keep and maintains itself at very low cost to the end user without the need for ads.
If one has to pay to add content then I’d want to be able to create my own island.
Why not just do that, have your own bookmarks/content and subscribe to public lists of curated content similar to how albums on Pintrest or boards on Tumblr are kept and subscribed to. Instead of worrying about some mass moderators that judge all content in and out of “the board” every individual can have their own board and moderate their own content and then just subscribe to other people’s boards as they so choose.
Good post, especially the micropay search engine.
A search engine with good privacy wouldn’t be able to customize results (same results for everyone), so it’d be interesting to see whether the Google crap repeats on SAFE, that users trade privacy for better results rather than pay up.
For example, the same search engine could offer a choice - small micro pay for non-personalized search, or - if you register, etc. - personalized search, customized results white/black listing, etc.
I can see how the majority would pick personalized service. I’d rather pay, but if the results completely sucked, then sadly I’d have to reconsider (but I hope some sort of Adblock for SAFE will exist by then).
Just another thought on the micropayment search idea. Theoretically a user could have free search if they were willing to put in the time to maintain the search engine to make up for the cost of using it. I mean it wouldn’t be free free but you would be recovering your financial losses easy. You might even be able to make some profit that way.
Just saw your post right now. And you know you could rig it to have your personalization and such stored on your SAFE space so that results could be improved but your anonymity maintained.
Does MAIDSAFE is horrific news for global
security?it can be used for illegal things like silk road, isn’t it?
do the advantages exceed the disadvantages?
Global security of what?
And as I don’t support censorship, the drug war, government surveylance, or any of that how is that a problem? It’s called freedom man. You can’t pick and choose. It’s kind of all or nothing. You’re either free or you’re not.
Consider that within the network, almost all forms of cyber/network attacks are defeated by design. All other illegal actions take place outside of the network itself. What you see is post occurrence. An aggregation of statistics and bulk data. That is all. Think objectively. Otherwise, suffer the emotional spiral. Think of SAFE as a mind anyone can access. If limited, you would handicap it’s capacity and its ability to help humanity grow. Your fear and discomfort leaves you hesitant or paralyzed while the bad people just keep it moving. When you sacrifice your freedoms for security or safety, you become trapped while they remain free. Ever growing and never completely eliminated. Like a persistent cancer. Think about it. Are you not to use your immune system for fear that a pathogen will latch on? An immediate death, or a fight to the end? That is IMO what happens when you relinquish your freedoms. Remember, tools are subject to the whim of the user. They alone are not the threat. This has to be dealt with socially. Everything else is fringe work and fuel for potential repression.
I honestly think he won’t even use SAFE. He’s the type of person who wants others to suffer the emotional spiral in his control freak world.
If it is used absolutely. The current technologies are inherently broken. Cybercrime is huge business – hacking of retailers and credit cards funds all kinds of organized crime. Billions and billions of dollars and Millons of identities are stolen by criminals all of the time. SAFE replaces a very broken system with one that actually works.
Criminal hacking as we know it will cease with SAFE… That is a HUGE advantage.
Everything SAFE has is available through different technologies. (Encryption, XOR routing etc) If criminals want to be safe the tools exist to do it now. SAFE just makes the public safe.
So we cut the organized crime off at the knees. Yes, it may facilitate some petty crimes – but not in any way that wasn’t possible before.
