I’ve not successfully managed to download anything but I do have a 0kb cat.png file so I’m clearly going in the right direction.
could you paste the full commands you tried here, I will also give it a go.
Thanks - I’m currently just doing as per David’s suggestion above:
$ safe cat safe://hy8aygymn871njm8qputxmcxy8ztsymm6nfnnzg4m64rcdcjd876jmjkfwa > cat.png
I just dogged that file.
safe dog safe://hy8aygymn871njm8qputxmcxy8ztsymm6nfnnzg4m64rcdcjd876jmjkfwa

is it a jpg?
running your command, i guess it would help to know what extension to use when catting a file.
edit: catting is taking longer than dogging.
I was just using examples from this thread.
Using the one from the instructions as follows I just get the un-openable small .png file:
$ safe dog safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme > ~/safe-the-planet.png
(if I use cat it says failed to get public blob)
command dog just lists the information about the file, you can out put it direct to the terminal and not use > to redirect the output to the file.
since safe dog only retrieves information about the file it runs quicker.
safe cat gets the whole file, which is why it is slower.
so your option are get information about the file…
safe dog safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme
you could put the file information in a txt file if you wanted
safe dog safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme > inforaboutcat.txt
or get the file and copy the contents to cat.png
safe cat safe://hy8aygymn871njm8qputxmcxy8ztsymm6nfnnzg4m64rcdcjd876jmjkfwa > cat.png
i’m catting that file in to a local file called myfile.jpg, it’s size isn’t increasing and its taking ages

Do you have an example that will work? Why is it so slow at the moment - is it a function of the network size?
Try this one.
safe cat safe://hygoygyjyj7wrhgdbr83ynzmmhg81dwyprthtw74yjaoggw7geg4ohsmwsa > samleap2.jpg
i uploaded it and it is a small file and definitely a jpg
OK - trying that - how long are we looking at to download?
I’m seeing the same error as @trycatch:
➜ safe cat safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme > safe-the-planet.png
Error: NetDataError: Failed to GET Public Blob: SelfEncryption(Storage)
FYI:
➜ safe auth status

And safe dog works just fine for the same file.
The above error happens both for the example safe-the-planet.png from the Fleming announcement post, as well as data I’ve uploaded myself (the upload went fine). I’ve tried several times over the course of today; waiting several hours did not help.
Any advice?
Same for me. I usually get a file created but it’s just a 0kb/1kb and never grows.
0 bytes file is created when > redirection starts. It means nothing.
1kb have some data - it is better to check what is located there.
I also got an error, but try this?
safe dog safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme
Seems I can do dog command and see the file but getting the blob seems to fail.
Oh my safe://deusnexus file container is also gone.
These work quickly.
safe dog safe://hygoygykdytfkxqmdazdgsrubwi5cozmuysaajupww9yoa7kh6zg4uejrbe
safe cat safe://hygoygykdytfkxqmdazdgsrubwi5cozmuysaajupww9yoa7kh6zg4uejrbe > ~/Downloads/lazydog.jpg
safe dog safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme
This doesn’t work at all.
